A member on another board had a 2 yr old rottie who was on prednisone developed excessive thirst, which is a normal side effect. However, he quenched his thirst by drinking out of the toilet. The toilet had the large tablet toilet bowl cleaners in the tank and the dog was poisoned. He passed away with in two days of drinking the water.
*Please, either do not use these cleaners in your house or keep those toilet lids down!

Thats exactly why I don't use them.. My Female Golden prefers the toilet. She even expects you to flush it for her before she drinks if you are in the bathroom with her....

Dogs are gross don't you think..

We don't stand for such behavior. If our golden ever did drink out of the toilet(which she's never done)she would be promptly disciplined and have some kennel time. Might sound mean but she's such a good dog BECAUSE we do this. I do the same with the birds. If they're getting a little nippy I gently, but firmly close their beak with 2 of my fingers and snernly say "no". :)

I don't use them just because if I forget to fill their water dish up before I leave for work and of course no one else in the house can be bothered to give the dogs water or feed them even though not all the dogs are mine. Then my dogs will actually lift the toilet seat to drink the water I think Abby is the first one who did that. Abby is too smart for her own good.

Dogs are really so amazing even though they have a dogs personality.. Just think about it they do learn our language but of course never speak a word of it..

Come on they are dogs.. They have a toilet paper tongue, roll in animal poop, eat garbage ect.

My Maddie was the star pupil in obedience school but she still acts like a dog. Positive reinforcement works as well for dogs as it does for parrots.

Lol yeah my dog Bianica was the best dog in her obediance class and she was just a puppy then too she was the ONLY one to make it to her final week of advanced obediance classes however I think Abby may be smarter she just does things I've never seen any other dog ever do and she's never been in obediance classes. I have to crate her when I go to work because I can't trust my dads dog and her alone but anyways I crate her and Sometimes she gets out of her crate on her own. We also had a gate that you had to do stuff to unlock and walk through it and after two days she could unlock it with her teeth and never leave a bite mark made me so mad.

I actually have one of these water bowls for my dogs so they always have plenty of water but the toilet water must taste better..

the largest one MIGHT hold enough water for Abby alone for maybe half a day lol that dog drinks the most water I have ever seen. I actually went to the dollar store and bought like 5 buckets 1 for each dog and an extra and I still have to fill them up daily.
