wanting to do rescue

So I've really been considering starting to do a small rescue for birds. I have a large empty room that I was thinking I could give to the birds that come, and it woud be a small rescue...only a few at a time, because it will be only me doing it.

But right now it is only an idea. What are some pros and cons to starting this on my own? Is it more ideal to try to be a foster home to another rescuer? It seems hard to find one.
I'm in upstate NY .... Craigslist is always full of birds that people don't want anymore...and I can't help but wonder where these poor birds end up.

So I have the space and time .... just wondering if its a GOOD idea or not....

Nat Is there a rescue org. near you? You could foster the rescue birds and rehab. as necessary until a home is found. Many people do that here.

It woul be better if you found a oragnization, so that you could help them out!

Hey Nat, not sure where you are upstate, but we have a new member (A Helping Wing) her name is Jeanne and she runs a rescue in Hopewell Junction NY, A Helping Wing you might try and contact her she might be able to give you some advice

Thanks guys ... I do think helping out an organization would be better than trying to start fresh. I have been trying to contact Jeanne, but she is traveling right now ... busy busy. She and I actually talked frequently when I was searching for a B&G, before I found Holly. She was a great source of help.

I'll try contacting a few places....this has been on my heart for a long time now. I would love to help out parrots that just need someone who understands them.... and needs real help. I think I'm pretty good with them and can really do some good for a few who may need me.

Actually, yes, Jeanne is busy. Traveling to Texas at the moment. I'm actually going to be voluntering there myself hopefully starting next month. I live in the Hudson Valley. Would be awesome if we all met, LOL.
