Lola- Blue Front Amazon- 2
Ive been really wanting to get a Macaw for awhile now, but I wont be able to for quite some time. I figured now would be the perfect time to start doing research. What are some of the things I should look out for when choosing a bird? How different are they from my blue front amazon, besides size of course. Im looking at either a: Blue and Gold, Greenwing, Hyacinth, or Scarlett Macaw. I have a ton of time to get the money together for the bird and all the supplies needed, so right now price isnt an issue. Even though the only place I know of around here to get birds sells Hyacinths at 12k each.

You must be talking about Bird Paradise in Burlington in reference to the Hys, correct?

I'd suggest you take many trips to that place and spend many, many hours with their macaws. Try and handle and interact with some that aren't babies anymore. :)

Macaws are extremely intelligent animals, they can make you laugh, cry and cringe all in one sitting.

You can also check out Fancy Feathers in Blackwood, or Todd Marcus Birds. :)

To me health, personality, cleanliness, and time spent with the bird (socialization) were deciding factors on who I chose my Macs from.

I was actually talking about Fancy Feathers. lol I went in there a few months ago and they had baby Hyacinths for sale for 12k. I was in shock. lol

Hyacinth is very rare in my area! As far as I know about them is you need to feed them more nuts as they are specific in their diet requirements. They go through cages pretty good so you'll have to replace their cage a lot more often then you would with most of the other types of macaws. Good luck in which ever one you decide to get! ;)

NO kidding! So Ursula FINALLY had success with her pair. That's awesome!!! She's been waiting a LONG time for them to get it right.
