VINNY - Vasmaeri Eclectus
Our poor little Vinny can be a real crab. This is our first Eclectus so I have nothing to compare his behavior to...but we have had other parrots (Macaws and Quakers) who were hand raised and we've never had this issues.

I will admit that Eclectus are definitely different from Macaws....and I know we have to move much slower w/ him. He will bite about us doing anything he doesn't like....like getting him to step-up when he doesn't want to etc...
Last night he was sitting behind me on the couch next to my head and he just decided to bite the crap outta my cheek. He much harder to read than any other parrot that we've had.

I hope he doesn't always have issues....I am not giving up on him of course....but want to make sure we start off on the right foot.
When I have to get him to step up and he doesn't want to (like when I have to leave to go to work and he has to go back in his cage) I give him a toy to bite and then he'll step up.
Once I can figure out a treat that he likes....I plan on starting the clicker training.

I think that he may be nervous and still settling into his new home. When I brought Audrey home, the first couple of days she was quiet and still, no biting. But after a few days she started lunging at me and biting hard. It took her a few weeks to break this habbit. Just remember to make no sounds or big reactions to the biting, just tell him a stern No. The only time Audrey bites me now is when we are playing, she gets carried away and actually broke the skin the other day for the first time. But I just told her "Too hard!" And put her back on the cage. I think she felt guilty because she came back down from her cage and gave me a hug lol. I think you just need to give it more time and see how he goes. :) How hard is he biting?

He doesn't puff up....but he grabs my thumb and holds on hard....not in the pick me up kinda way, he also is growling a bit when he does it. He broke the skin once on my cuticle. I am not afraid so I really don't yank away or anything. I have picked up his stand once to distract him to let go.
The biting the face really caught me off guard....since I was just sitting next to him.
I'm sure it'll take time....I have also read that there are many Eclectus that go through a biting face during weaning.
