Video: My neighbor and I just rescued this escaped ringneck from certain death!!!

Check this out... I decided to go for a walk with my tiel and suddenly this woman started yelling "there is a bird sitting in that tree, help!!". She had to leave so I stayed behind to try to catch the bird which obviously escaped from someone (we don't know who). I went to Petco to buy a net to help catch the bird and while I was gone the woman came back home and when she opened the door to her house the bird flew right into her living room!!!

I gave the lady my spare travel bird cage... I will have to disinfect it when she gives me the cage back just incase... to keep my tiels safe if this ringneck MIGHT have something... but the ringneck was super sweet!!! He was very uneasy around us but when he calmed down he let me cuddle him and he also steps up... he also LOVES mirrors and makes all sorts of funny noises whe he looks at himself.

I am soooo HAPPY we rescued him because he would have eventually DIED out there.

I don't know how we are going to find the true owner??? I have annoying HOA here and they don't allow you to stick signs anywhere!

I am in LOVE with this ringneck LOL... since I have tiels the ringneck is at the neighbor's house of course... so my tiels are safe.

This neighbor also named the ringneck Romeo since my name is Juliet LOL

This was the coolest day ever!!! This bird was very LUCKY to have been rescued because it very often ends up in tragedy if a bird gets loose.

... but OMG this makes me want a ringneck soooo bad! LOL He was super sweet and has made himself feel right at home in her house LOL

I think he is a baby because he has tons of new feathers growing in on top of his head.

Crap... I totally forgot to ask, I am not familiar with ringnecks... I gave her a bag of cockatiel/conure seed mix... is that OK for a ringeck or should I get her ringneck mix??? She doesn't own any birds but says he has babysat peoples African Greys. I would take the ringneck in a heart beat (until e can find his real owner) but I have tiels and worried what if that ringneck might have something. I doubt it does but you never know. I also do not think he was missing for a long time.

He's gorgeous! Def. a he. Not baby baby, Somewhere between 18 months -3yrs, - those rings can take years to come in and he's got a good start to one there! That seed is fine for now, just offer him as much fresh stuff as possible too.

I have one issue though... she has a porch with sliding glass door and she had NO covering on the sliding glass door window while the bird was completely lose and flying around inside her condo this huge window was completely exposed in the tiny living room it was flying in!!!!!!!! I tried to explain to her that is a serious disaster waiting to happen and that she MUST have her vertical binds covering the sliding glass door window so the bird doesn't fly head first into it and sustain a serious or fatal head injury.. so I pulled the vertical blinds to make that window safe and it fixed the problem AND you could still see out the window just fine (it also did not make the condo dark at all)... but she undid what I did!!! ... and the sliding glass window is again exposed and 100% uncovered.

I kept telling her she CANNOT have the bird lose EVER inside her condo if she does not have that window SAFE... she still didn't seem to understand this at all.

This concerns me a LOT.

I will post her in the ringneck section and I will need to find some way to find this bird a good home.

That bird was so sweet... he could have bitten me really hard and caused me serious harm (I was so scared to touch him at first because I thought for sure he would bite me really hard LOL) but he was so gentle and when he did open his beak to "bite me" he barely applied any pressure on my finger he was simply feeling my finger if it was a safe thing to step up onto. You could tell how intelligent these birds are. Wow.

I agree... I don;t know much at all about ringnecks but he had so mnay baby pin feathers on his head... I thought maybe either he's a very young bird or going through a molt...

... so by the picture you are confident he is under 3 yrs old? That's so cool It's also really nice to be able to at least know their approximate age.

So hang on...I get not wanting the IRN at home with the 'tiels because of illness, but you could quarantine? We can never determine if birds are going to get on, but if you were going to have another species should you not be able to find his original owner, and had a genuine love for IRN's, they can live in the same house as tiels. I'll try and find a photo of my team for you later...at work atm

So glad you wee able tp help rescue him! He sounds so tame, I bet someone is missing him. I would post in NextDoor.com for your community - I have seen several people connect with lost pets here that way, and surely someone knows someone with a pretty blue bird that's missing!

So hang on...I get not wanting the IRN at home with the 'tiels because of illness, but you could quarantine? We can never determine if birds are going to get on, but if you were going to have another species should you not be able to find his original owner, and had a genuine love for IRN's, they can live in the same house as tiels. I'll try and find a photo of my team for you later...at work atm

Thanks I'd love to see the photo I have always eventually wanted to get a green cheek conure but not anytime soon and to be honest I'm just as unfamiliar with green cheeks as I am with IRNs... so I don't have a strong preference for one over the other .. but I really did like this ringneck!

... so in other words I have no idea if I would love an IRN over a green cheek (asides from the fact that ringnecks can be a LOT louder which conerns me... I know birds make noise of course but ringnecks can be super duper loud??). I'm so unfamiliar with green cheeks and ringnecks it's not even funny. The only birds I am very familiar with are tiels and budgies.

I also plan to move from Florida back to Budapest, Hungary in a few years and if I fell in love with an IRN or green cheeck conure and was unable to bring him overseas with me I would be heart broken. Tiels are easy to bring with me to Hungary because they are not on the CITES... unlike conures, they are

I just posted online in my neighborhoods LOST/FOUND section. I put I found a lost bird but I did not give any further details about the bird because there are jerks out there who will lie and say it is their ringneck and then sell it for a profit... so if someone contacts me about a lost bird they need to tell me what type of bird it is. I trust no one

.. but if I can safely care for him until I can be 100% positive I will totally do it... that woman has him now in her condo in the spare cage I lent her and that cage is TINY it is only 17 inch that is way too small for him even if it's temporary???

I feel sorry for him being in such a tiny cage... and what if he flies head first into her EXPOSED sliding glass window! :11: :34:

I added below to my LOST/FOUND posts in my neighborhood and on the links Flboy gave me because some of these sites required me to reveal the actual breed/type of bird lost... just trying to "weed" out bad guys.

Found lost BIRD today that was sitting outside in a tree. We now have the bird indoors and are trying to find its real owner. This bird obviously accidentally flew out someone's front door. If you have lost your pet bird please get in touch.
If you lost this bird and are coming to reclaim him we do require ownership to be verifiable and ability to provide him with a GOOD responsible home. I am a bird owner myself and when unclipped bird is allowed to fly out the front door most often it is fatal to the bird and very rarely able to be rescued. This bird is very LUCKY to have been rescued. Rule #1 with unclipped birds (NEVER open a window or door unless you are positive the bird is secured!!).

Problem!!!

The cage I lent this woman is a tiny 17 inch travel cage... it is a very small cage... so small I would not even keep a tiel in it for longer than few days.

How long do you think it's ok for this IRN to be kept in that tiny cage if never let out?

I am VERY concerned abut this IRN because if she lets him out of cage she is refusing to make her sliding glass door bird safe. When I walked into her condo and saw the IRN neck loose flying around her living room with a big exposed sliding glass door/window my mind was blown. I asked her to please slide the vertical blinds closed to make the window SAFE but she refused and told me the blinds are broken.

I told her NO NO NO it is easy you can still pull the blinds shut so I did and simply re-arranged the vertical blinds as some of the vertical blinds were missing and that fixed the problem but she refused to leave it that way making the window completely EXPOSED again with NO covering whatsoever and highly dangerous.

I tried to explain this to her... she never owned birds before and says she "knows what she is doing" because she used to babysit her friend's african grey and that the window is fine.... it is NOT fine!!!!!

The IRN is going to fly head first into the damn window!!!!!!! Her condo is tiny and the living room is a 12 ft by 14 ft room (it's actually smaller than that) with a big sliding glass door to her open balcony. IRN is in her living room.

I also have this spare bird cage which is far more suitable for an IRN and I had plans to sell this spare bird cage but now this IRN might need it.

Wouldn't it be best to keep the IRN in this larger cage in a SAFE environment in my master bedroom with the door shut which is completely empty room (not even being used by me because this condo needs to be rennovated in the next couple of months so my bed is in the living room LOL) until I can find his real owner or a good home who can care for him responsibly?

I'm not sure what to do and this woman might not even allow me to take the bird from her... this IRN needs to find his real ower or I will do research and ensure I interview people and he gets a good home in a house where people have enough common sense to at least not have exposed/uncovered windows! I explained to her when birds fly into a wall or window it can be fatal or cause serious head injury resulting in swelling in the brain. Yet she still refused to cover the sliding glass window!!! I had to do it. Then she un-did what I did!

Don't give that person that bird. It'll be up on craigslist within a few days. That person is 1 of 3 things, a scammer, not smart (3 years is a long time for a tame bird to live in the wild), or extremely hopeful. But clearly it's not their parrot

I'd take that bird, tough luck for your neighbour she clearly doesn't want to bother with it, I'd also advise getting him to a vet (maybe seeing the bill would change her mind) to get him checked for any issues and he may have gone to the same vet

I don't have any friends, literally, not joking! LOL. I'm a bit of a loner and just spend time with 'Nut and Rascal and work online trying to get my new business going... and my mom hates animals but I think I might be able convince her to keep the IRN for about two or 3 weeks.... but not if the IR is too noisy (I'm referring to if the IRN is screaming very loud often... not if he's just chattering away) my mom would KILL me... and the bird

My mom also has NO idea how to care for a bird but my mom lives in my old house now which has been bird proofed so at least he would not fly into the window.

Would it be SAFE for me to keep this IRN in my larger spare cage in the master bedroom with the door closed???

This spare cage is so heavy it would be impossible for me to even get it to that woman's house... she lives in my neghbordhood 2 minute walk away fro my condo but I can't trust anyone who does not want to acknowledge it is a MUST that the sliding glass winow is not exposed!!!

I have had my fair share dealing with head injuries... it's a life or death matter and this woman has demonstrated she sees no problem at all with having her sliding glass door exposed.
