RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
In the next few weeks I will be building some very elaborate parrot gyms/perches/swings/tree thingys and need to know what kind of vet wrap that you guys use for yours. I did a little research on Amazon and wasn't sure what specific (if there is a certain one) vet wrap I should be buying. I would like the colorful stuff as I've noticed that Con is rather partial to purple and Barker to green (which Con is pleased with lol). So what do you guys use for your homemade perches?

Thanks!

I used vet wrap on Merlins shower perch so he had better grip. He didn't like it but I think that's because he'd previously had that wrap +colour on his bad leg.

Go for different coloured vet wrap, it's all the same and I think they'll appreciate the colours! :)

I got some pretty vet wrap (green with blue stars) at Tractor Supply in the horse section, they had all kinds of colors/patterns to pick from.

None that I know of.....I have tried using vw on my java tree limbs so they aren't so slippery for the Macaws and they rip it off in seconds ,lolol. Keeps then occupied of like five minutes ......I think because one saw me actually wrapping the limbs ,so they know it wasnt there to begin with and that it does come off . Monkey see monkey do ;)
None have ever eaten any of it and nobody had ever shown any ill effects from mouthing it.
When I had my horse , she even ate it off leg once and when I wrapped her tail in it to trailer her , I left her alone for about twenty minutes ,she got it off her tail somehow and was chewing on it when I came back to get her , lolol
Oh my girl was precious I tell you ,a real pill , lolol.

Just don't wrap anything with it you don't want torn off. ;););)

So I don't have to get a certain brand? I saw in one of the Amazon reviews that it can smell funny and didn't know if all of it did. Guess I'll just order a whole box of assorted colours and do it out of view. I doubt Barker would rip it off or do more than chew on it but Con would go psycho like "OMG!!! NEW TOY!!! NOM" then it'd be all over my carpet....

I just Jute twine or for bigger birds hemp rope and a simple half hitch repeated from one end to the other and it makes a cool spiral and gives lots of traction.

What is Vet Wrap?

Not sure if any of the responses answered your question .
Vet wrap is similar to a ace bandage , but its lighter in material and disposable.
Its almost like a gauze but not soft or absorbent and its stronger then gauze.
It comes in a variety of colors , designs....
Mostly used for veterinarian use to wrap around the gauze , sutures , topical medications...but as you have read , it has mulitple uses around the
house , lolool. :D:D:D

Speaking from another perspective as an RN of over 15 years, "vet wrap" is a cohesive bandage - essentially a bandage that sticks to itself and not to anything else. It's stretchy and can be used as a compression bandage as well. In human medicine it's most commonly known as Coban. I don't know if it was developed for animals or people (it would make sense that it was developed for animals and adapted for human medicine), but it's found uses in almost every area of medicine (animal and human) and beyond. As Lovemytoo said, it has multiple uses around the house, yard, farm, barn, zoo, and just about anyplace else you can think of! Once you become familiar with it you wont want to be without it. :)

Most vet wraps are ok but if you see, for example, a person selling vet wrap and all the reviews are one star then you may not want to get that one lolol. ;) Just got some vet wrap for a PVC playgym. :)

Thanks for the descriptions. Now I know exactly what it is. I've had it used on me by medical. I never knew it wasn't just a medical supply for people. I love the use of wrapping it on pvc or slippery perches.

Question: Is it safe if my cherry-head chews on it. Like many of you, I have a major chewer living in my house, so I know he'll chew it -- for how long -- that he'll decide, lol.

I get it at Walmart in the bandage section! Looks like this.
