Hey guys, I've booked Audrey into an avian vet this Saturday (soonest I could get!) as I've noticed she has a runny nose. She has been sneezing a little bit the past couple of days, but now with the runny nose, I'm going to take her to get checked out just to be on the safe side. They would only tell me the consultation fee and not how much any further testing would be. So for anyone who has had blood work testing done, what was the average price? Just so I can be prepared! I am in Australia, so anyone from Aus with answers would probably be good lol!

i know the total was around $290 usd. it was an annual physical that had fecal and blood testing. the doctor fee was $90, but that office is sort of expensive. fecal test was around $40.

I'm in the US, and my office fee was $50-60, depending on the vet, and the blood panel were around $200. The lab prices vary. The first vet I took Puck to wanted over $100 for a poo test, but the next place I took him to cost $35. They should be able to tell you lab prices over the phone though. I'd be bothersome and hassle them about it, haha.

Alright thanks for the response guys. I guess I could be up for around $500 if they feel testing is necessary. :( The consultation fee alone will be $90. I was able to move the vet appointment up to tomorrow anyway, so it will be good for peace of mind as I am always worried about how she is going!

It depends on the vet.

This is what the labs charge: (excluding vet markup fee)

(Rounding up to the closest dollar)
Tests per SAMPLE
2 pathogens: $58
3 pathogens: $82
4 pathogens: $102
Super (APV, PBFDV, CP, PDV, AS, Certificate): $107

Some vets will just charge the lab fee + cost of shipping and the blood extraction is in the consult fee, others will charge for blood extraction, and then have a markup on the blood results.

KC I think you will just have to sort out with your Vet what tests he recommends doing. I know the PBFD costs $240 on it's own & that was a couple of years ago. My normal vet has most equipment to be able to test birds for simple problems. If your going for the full blood works I would think around the $500 + mark.

Which Vet Clinic are you using???

Thank you for the responses guys. I just wanted to be prepared and didn't want a huge shock when I got the bill lol, She came back as having a bacterial infection so they have given me some medication for her and I have to go back and get her checked next weekend. I really hope that she will be okay, it was an upsetting experience, but I guess with the sneezing I knew she was probably sick. The vet was very nice and knowledgeable though. It wasn't too costly thankfully but they did do a crop wash check and a fecal check. The vet is called "Bird & Exotics Vetenarian" If thats much help lol
