Galah - Nigel
Nigel my galah was on my shoulder just then and I have a singlet on so he didn't have much grip, he slipped off my shoulder and fell onto the floor landing on his wing. I can tell his in a lot of pain he just trying to fly and made a yelp. He is biting my hands every time I try and put them near him. Also I just found a wing feather on the floor with blood on the end. I currently have him in his cage so he can relax. It's 7.30pm should I take him to a 24hr vet or wait until morning.

I am very worried about him :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Does your vet have an emergency number you could ring? They would probably advise whether he needs to come in right away or whether to wait til morning.

Urgh! I'm so sorry I missed your post, Becky! It's quarter to three now (insomnia) and so any advice I might give you will be no use. If you haven't already taken Nigel to the vet, I'd certainly do so in the morning, especially if his wing is painful. He might have broken it and that would need careful medical care.

The bloody feather is a worry too. In the future, you can dab on a fingerful of cornflour to stop bleeding from a broken or pulled-out blood feather. Poor Nigel! I'm so sorry he had such an unpleasant accident! Please remember, though, it was an accident. Dominic fell off the sleeve of my dressing gown the other morning, but I was lucky and managed to catch him before he hit the deck. He still bit me, though!

I expect Nigel is nipping at you because his wing hurts and he's telling you 'hands off!'

Please keep us in touch with Nigel's progress, won't you? Dominic sends his warmest comforting chirrups and we're waiting anxiously to hear all's well! :)

Hope Nigel is feeling better and that you have a better understanding of his status.

How is Nigel doing this morning? I hope he is doing better and that you are able to figure out what is going on with him.
