Hello all,
My Charlie is going through something I've noticed happen once or twice a year since I've had him. One day a couple weeks ago, out of the blue, I went to take him out for breakfast like any other day and he starts to flare his tail and put his head down and refuse to step up. I gave him a few minutes with the door open and eventually he came out on his own. Since then he has acted the same almost every day and yesterday and today he bit me, once on the hand and today on the lip as he was giving me a kiss. He does it without warning and doesn't seem upset as long as he cannot see his cage. Is it territorial? I don't know why he's doing this I just don't want him to be unhappy. Any advice?!? Thank you in advance!

What comes to mind is that it is Poicephalus breeding season. For them it's in the winter here not spring. Pois are famous for the strikes without warning too!

I usually either have Robin step up on a stick, or I pick him up in my hand over his back (far back on his body) where he can't reach if he tries to bite, then I set him down away from his cage where we can cuddle, then he's okay. He was VERY unpredictable when he was younger. At 21, he doesn't try with serious bites AS often, but I'm always careful.

I was wondering if it could be hormonal! That makes a lot of sense, he's just filled with angst haha poor guy. Thank you for your input!
