I was just given an E-mail that really shocked me that if you take pictures with your cell phone, the GPS feature will lead people directly to your home!! This is extremely important as we have valuable birds that others may want to steal and can get this information directly from your pictures!

My phone takes crappy pics, I always use my camera. But nice to know, I do sometimes send random pics of Kiwi to my hubby.

Definitely scary!

I always have mine turned off, but for others who have iPhones go to Privacy> Location Services> and make sure the Camera is set to OFF (and photobucket too if you use PB on your iPhone, like me)

Great tip Alwese!

For those that like to have the geo tag data on their images so they can remember where images were taken, there are free programs to strip the exif data before you upload images for public viewing. I use Photoshop, but just do a google search: free software to remove exif data

Thanks. This is so scary! I just went in my iPhone and iPad to set location services to off.

I noticed that pics in my phone still have the location labeled. So, I'm assuming it doesn't remove the location from previously taken pics, just any FUTURE ones will be taken care of? Sorry for my tech stupidity

I have my location turned off! Even if I had it on it never really pinpoints my house anyways as it was inaccurate when I checked it before....lol

I went in to pinpoint my exact location and it showed me in the wrong place....around the proximity but incorrect....I have to go through it to find it again.....I play with my phone too much....lol

Put the picture onto your computer, then take a screen shot (print screen) of the image. You can then paste the image into a clean "sheet" and clean it up. Easiest way to get the image without all the data. That is, if you are concerned about it.

Thank you for the info...... :) we keep location services OFF.
It would be a very dangerous mistake for anyone to come near our family to do us harm.

And it's worth reminding everyone, don't post pictures and tell people that you are currently on vacation. Post your pics once you get back home. That way people won't break into your home because you told them you were out of town.
