Tweety - Budgie 1984 - 1987
Sweety - Budgie 1985 - 1986
So we are on day 18 of quarantine, I've read articles where 20 days QT is sufficient and others that say 30 days. She's a pistol so if 20 days is sufficient can I move her out of QT and introduce her to Buddy officially???

Some pathogens can hang around for up to 90 days outside of a bird's body, but usually 30-45 days is good for most critters.....where did you obtain your new feathered friend & do you know when it was last seen by a vet? If you obtained the bird through private sale, there's always the possibility you could contact the bird's previous vet to check on its last exam. Here's a CDC article about chlamydia and a 30-45 day quarantine period: Compendium of Measures To Control Chlamydia psittaci Infection Among Humans (Psittacosis) and Pet Birds (Avian Chlamydiosis), 1998

A lot depends on where you live, where the bird's from & the diseases that local vets normally see, but I don't remember seeing 20 day recommendations.....

Where did you read that a 20 day quarantine was long enough?

Good luck.....

I've actually always heard 30. Technically, 90 is really the magic number... taking into account the shedding cycles of certain diseases, but I definitely understand your eagerness. (And most people do 30.)

I reckon the most important question here is, have you gotten a thorough workup for her at the vet? And I'm talking blood screens with tests run for some of the usual suspects: PDD, PBFD, Polyoma virus, and psittacosis. If so, and Venus has tested negative on all counts, then your quarantine is indeed almost over.

Sorry, Walt. I must've been typing mine when you posted yours.

Who am I to complain about the proclivities and/or actions of a Super Moderator? I've had my hand slapped enough to hold my tongue at the proper times ! ! !

So guess I'll just go lay down somewhere & scratch behind my ear...at least I don't have to contend with all that snow ! ! !

Now now, you have both brought up valid points and all is needed. I read 20 days on a website, was hopeful it was possible, and I'll have to look but thought it was odd. Right now I'm tired of changing clothes, wearing gloves, doing most activities two times a day, once for each beautiful bird. Venus (the new Ekkie) is so energetic, Buddy (my first baby, he's a GCA), knows someone new is in his domain and has been trying to go into the office where Venus is. Me? I see both look and act healthy but know things can come up based on how long things or new issues take to develop. I think hearing or reading the reminders of what can happen in the 30 - 90 day window was needed by me. I so want to start introducing them bad but want them to both be healthy.

Not to worry, it's just banter.....really,it's the term Super Moderator that causes my indiscretions.....

The first paragraph I didn't realize, but makes sense about life cycles of organisms.
I agree with the second paragraph, if you get all that bloodwork done to test for viruses, that should give you more peace of mind.

Ah, Walt. But the ironic part is that you are the very reason our office was upgraded to the super moderator designation in the first place. After all, the Herculean task of putting out the small fires spread liberally across the breadth of the forum in the wake of your posts, alternately impish and crotchety with an occasional pinch of the irascible, was deemed too daunting a task for mere moderators.

Hence was born the super moderator.

In recent months, however, you've begun to render even this designation less than properly descriptive. The latest ideas bandied about by the powers-that-be have included such superlatives as ultra, meta and even hyper.

So there's the truth, friend Walt. You in fact created what you behold. You are the Joker to our Batman... the Luthor to our Superman... the pooper to our scooper.

Love ya, Walt! ;)

Um Minimaker please clarify, am I the reason for a new category of Super Modifier?????

Just a gentle reminder when it is time to introduce them do it very slowly and keep your eye on that red head! Eclectus females do not give warning they strike as if going after a snake and they don't easily let go. While if there are problems with Buddy typical zon style you will have some warning.

While there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule eclectus typically like other eclectus, other species....not so much.

Well, I'm not going to check the historical validity of this, but I think your SM designation was used back when I came aboard, but I want my name on the bags & a remunerative stipend of say $0.005 every time an SM gets thanked, considering your claim as outlined above.....I might be amenable to negotiations ! ! !

I don't know, maybe, but we may have another kinship, I'm originally from just up the coast from you, on the other side of Narragansett Bay.....

Sure thing, Walt. Fair is fair, after all.

On a less than entirely unrelated topic, it has been determined that you shall, henceforth, be fined in the amount of $0.007 for each and every posted word of caustic or incendiary nature. Fortunately for you, given the number of thanks we receive from this wonderful membership, it should prove nearly a wash with your remunerative stipend.

Nearly.
