Does anyone know of a Vasa Parrot breeder in the UK? :) I have heard there's one in Derbyshire, but, never seen contact info for it. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be ever so grateful :3 Thankies!

Since you live in the UK, you might want to contact the Parrot Society, they've got a posting about Vasas on their website, though it's about the lessers, but then, you didn't mention whether your interest was in the Greater Vasa or the Lesser Vasa...anyway, here's the link:

Conservation of Lesser Vasa Parrots and Black Parrots

Why do you want Vasa? Which one - greater or lesser? :) They are very rare. I read about them quite a bit, but only saw one for sale here in US for about $1000… There are so many other species. :) Just curious.

Not sure about the UK, but several breeders here in the US I know of have the Greater. I see them at the bird stores here in Southern Cal from time to time. Very different looking.

There were two a year or so back - I don't have time to look now but if you search the Other Species subforum there are a couple of threads that should mention them. I seem to remember one was Isle Of Mann and the other was Nottinghamshire, the latter being someone my bird sitter had first hand experience of. If you can't find the old threads I'll have a look tonight.

The Nottinghamshire guy trades as Ryan's Parrots, based in Newark - 07763138442

Vasa's are actually fascinating parrots. Big personalities. Lots of seasonal quirks. I got to play with one for a couple of months.

We had a local breeder, and one of the mates escaped and showed up in a tree in my yard. So the breeder brought her mate over to my place hoping we could get her back...
