Next week we're going on vacation for a few days. We already have somebody to spend some time with and feed/water my CAG. The only thing is that I can't expect this person to clean the cage each day and they simply said they wouldn't. My pet store doesn't change the bedding everyday because they use shredded paper. I bought a paper shredder today and have been shredding lots of newspaper. I was planning on piling it about 4-5 inches. Will this be okay for a few days?

I don't clean my cages everyday. Unless you have an extraordinarily messy bird or a cage that doesn't have a grate in the bottom, I don't see why you would need to clean daily. If you are only leaving for 3 or 4 days, I would just clean it before you leave and then the day you get back.

I agree with Icy - if you've got a grate on the bottom, just clean it just before you leave and then when you get home, your CAG will be fine. :)

What sort of person wouldn't clean a cage out if they're "watching" the bird. It's not exactly difficult. hmph!

Thanks! I tried to get people to clean it but not too many people where I live are fond of birds. I'll still shred the paper so the feces wont be as visible and it wont smell. I thought I had to clean the cage everyday ha! I will still probably continue because I can't stand the sight of her mess.

Newspaper is fine as lkong as your bird can't get to it to chew on. My Ekkie loves to chew on paper. So I don't use newspaper any where he can get to it to chew on. I wouldn't think the inks used in newspaper would be good for a bird.
