Vacation with Bourke Parakeet

This is our first year with our Bourke Parakeet. During the summer we take an extended vacation (2-3 weeks) up to Flagstaff to stay in my mother in law's house. We want to take our Bourke up with us and have her stay at her house as well. We do have a travel cage (20-Inch by 12-1/2-Inch by 15-1/2-Inch) which we would use to transport her. We are considering buying a larger cage for her at the Mother-in-Law's house. So, here are my questions!

1. Would a travel cage be ok to use as her primary cage for 2-3 weeks?

2. Any tips to acclimate her for the car ride (2 hours)?

3. Any tips to acclimate her to a new temporary environment?

Or, we could ask our neighbor who has experience with birds (our bird stayed at their house for a week on an earlier trip).

Any general advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

If thats the size your bird would get very stressed trapped in a small space for long periods of time, with new places and new people and a travel trip it would be pretty intense outside the cage aswell, youll need a bigger cage with a couple different type perches, some natural wood toys that arent too imposing and some fresh veg tucked in a corner to encourage her to scout around. Is there any way you could take her usual cage with you?

Has she been in a car before? If not put a towel on all three sides and the side thats facing out have it facing you sitting in the backseat (or someone they trust) talking to them calmly with some millet even. A few short trips in the car like this before you go might help with the shock of a long trip

When you get there I would hold back on taking her out the cage for the first couple days, dont show her new things and people all at once, let it happen gradually over the three weeks and keep an eye on her reactions, how shes feeling, if shes very uncomfortable keep things quiet around her and just read a book to her or talk on the phone with someone so she feels comforted by your chatter.

We travel with our 2. Just back from a week long trip.Now we have a motorhome so traveling is easier. Our macaw is in a smaller cage than he has at home but he has no issues with it. They would rather be with us than left at home. Before we bought the rv we took them on car trip vacations, they both did fine traveling.
Just make sure your mother in laws house is parrot safe before you arrive. No strong cleaners, candles ect, ECT.
I'm sure your feather baby would rather make a few adjustments to a new environment and new people as long as he's with you. 3 weeks would be along time to be away from you.

I took Bumble to Virginia with me for 17 days over the holidays. 6 hour plane trip each way, and while there we took a road trip to North Carolina so I think that was maybe 5 hours each way. She did great. She was introduced to a ton of new people, places, situations. As long as she was with me, she didn’t care. She charmed the pants off of everyone she encountered. I would 100% take her again. It was less stressful for her to be with me, and WAY less stressed for me not having to spend a single moment worrying about her.
