I work with the pound in my city to place adoptable dogs in homes. The pound has had to take in 3 dogs and is presently at capacity. The dogs are scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow (November 10th) if they are not adopted or fostered. I am committing to foster one of them, but I don't have room for more. If you would like to adopt and live in Oklahoma, North Texas, Western Arkansas, my mom and I are willing to transport one of these dogs to you. The pound is located in Sulphur, Oklahoma and has several wonderful dogs that need good homes. I will include a link to the page on petfinder. I appreciate your time if you are reading this! Just let me know if you are interested! :D http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelterid=OK330

Can I post this to my facebook page? I know a few folks in TX and OK. I don't know if any of them would be able to foster but it's worth a shot

IcyWolf: Absolutely! I would greatly appreciate it! :) I've been posting all over facebook this morning. Unfortunately, it seems as though most people want purebred dogs. :(

These break my heart! I always see ads for dogs about the be euthanized on Craigslist and it's terrible!

Why would so many people want a purebred over a mutt anyway? Mutts are more unique, and in my experience, healthier... My mom has a purebred poodle and a mutt. They are almost the same age, but the poodle has kidney disease, cataracts, just had bladder stones removed, and I forget what else, while the mutt doesn't have any of those problems.

Awww...I wish you and these dogs good luck, sarasaurus! My son's in construction and was doing some work at a pound in Fresno, CA a couple years ago. He said on euthanasia day he would leave work in tears, the dogs were carted past the construction workers on their way to be put down. So sad...

I don't know why people want purebreds so badly, I guess it's a status thing around here. Mutts make the absolute best dogs.

We had luck, I adopted one dog and we placed another. We may be placing another dog in the morning, but we haven't heard back from the prospective family. I hate that it's like this :( And the shelter is always full. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes :)

For the future, don't tell people they are "mutts" - tell them they are "designer dogs" - and make up a name to fit! After all, doesn't "Misty is a lovely Bostador" sound better than "we think she's a Boston Terrier/Lab mix but don't know for sure!

That's a great idea! I'm going to start doing that.

Unfortunately, our shelter was extremely overcrowded this past week and 3 dogs were euthanized. I am so sad. :( More are set to be euthanized tomorrow if they aren't adopted out, but people just aren't interested in them. I can't understand it. :(
