Updates about Shine: Should I discontinue eye drops?

I've got huge help from this forum and especially EllenD, shine is still alive...and doing better. I wanna tell that her eyes are completely back to normal, and I wonder if i should discontinue eye drops? or continue them for a few more days to be very sure? One of the eye drops is lotapred (steroid) and the other one is gatifloxacin. No signs of aspiration pneumonia. Activeness has increased a bit. Her droppings are watery even now (but very less water compared to what it was in the beginning) and some droppings are very perfect, bubbles are there even now but not in all droppings. I've decided to continue anti fungal terbicip to complete suggested course of 21 days. Cefpodoxime came later so it still has some days, I'll most probably continue it too for making a course of 21 days. She's being given sunlight and vitamin A rich diet, and kept warm. And most importantly she's receiving care and attention which she needs. I believe things will just improve with the time

First of all, please continue ALL of the meds for the recommended course...A 21-day course is the absolute MINIMUM for the antibiotic and the anti-fungal...

As far as the eye-drops go, if the swelling/redness/discharge from her eyes has stopped, I would discontinue the steroid, but I would continue the antibiotic eye-drop until she's done with the oral antibiotic. And if you discontinue the steroid eye-drop and her eyes for some reason swell back up or start running again, then start it again...I highly doubt that will happen, but just as an FYI...

I'm so happy we could help you and Shine out, I'm starting to realize just how difficult it is for people who live in other countries to get their pets proper medical care, specifically people with birds. I used to just tell people to get their birds to an Avian Vet immediately, and would actually get frustrated and upset with people, often asking them why they hadn't already taken them to the Avian Vet...I certainly have gotten an education in how difficult it is to find an Avian Vet, or even a Vet in-general in many countries...I've also realized how lucky we in the US are in-regards to having pretty-much 24/7 access to specialty Vets...

I don't like giving people veterinary medical advice or instructions, or recommending prescription meds for their birds/pets, but I've realized that in some situations, such as this one, if I don't try to help some of these pets/birds in countries without proper vet care, these owners are not going to get any help...So any of us on this forum who have a medical/veterinary science education and work background can actually help a lot of people, even though I'm not entirely comfortable with it because I'm not a Veterinarian...Sometimes you've got to do the best you can and that's all you can do...

I'll do the same I've seen posts of people saying that bird is sick and no avian vets are available in their area! I do not know if all of them are genuine or not, but I do know that compromising the health and life of someone you have petted and tamed, even if you do have resources and avian vets available, is extremely cruel. Such people should not keep pet, especially birds. It's amazing to be in US. Unfortunately my country is not that much great when it comes to avian sciences, at times I feel i should have known the quality of vets here earlier and thus shouldn't have kept shine, that makes me feel a bit bad! But, I'll always try my best to keep her happy and healthy

Definitely follow all instructions on medication, stopping early causes a lot of relapse and problems. It's wonderful to hear if your dedication, despite difficult situation. From your earliest pictures I wasn't sure she could pull through, you've done a great job!!!

Jim, he doesn't have a CAV, it's been a "do the best you can do" kind of situation unfortunately...but it worked out just fine in the end, bird is doing well, meds worked, but definitely frustrating without access to a proper vet anywhere...
