Hi All - I have a couple of updates on my fids.
My white front amazon went to a family who rehabilitates birds. He stepped right up for everyone in the family. They took a week to make a decision about him and decided to take him. It was a hard decision for me but he wasn't working out in my home.
Whisper - is attacking my Severe and I don't like it. I don't like keeping Whisper in his cage either. Whisper will jump down off his tree or his cage and run towards Jingle. If I get there first I usually can keep him away from Jingle but one time I watched what would happen and Jingle got bit. I was fortunate that Jingle hasn't lost his toe yet...but I guess it could still happen. I have a friend who really likes blue front amazons. He may take him or my son has said that he would like him. Decision not completely made yet but I don't like leaving my birds in the cage because they can't get along or won't stay on their tree like they should. Whisper also chased two of the cats. (Not for long on my watch. I keep towel and the dowel rod that he steps up on ready and close by.)
Another Severe coming into the home. A family that I know has come on some hard times with medical problems with their son. They have a Severe that needs a home - Rocky - is what I call a special Severe. He has a 5th toe on one foot and a smaller left wing. His beak is really long and they have had it trimmed once in the last four months. However, I got a picture of his cage and the mom did admit they haven't been able to find too many toys that he likes to chew. I mentioned that my Severe didn't like the brightly colored toys and she said that he did like to chew his dowel perch a lot. I can't wait to get Rocky home to my house. Just a couple of more weekends.
Yeti continues to come to the front of the cage with the door closed and let me pet her...but as soon as I open the door she goes to the farthest corner. She will let me pet her but she still doesn't trust me. But she is a good bird and funny. Yeti prefers the natural colored toys.
Jingle - got bit by Whisper about 10 days ago and bled like crazy. I didn't have any flour in the house and at the time didn't have a bird first aid kit (I now have one). The wound has healed and I don't think we are going to lose the toe but I can't say never. Jingle has finally figured out how to really chew some wood toys and is enjoying herself. She really loves the natural wood toys and that is just fine with me. 2x4s are fairly cheap. All the chewing has cleaned up her beak and it looks much better but I also put a Manu mineral rock in her cage and I have seen her using that. Since she got bit Jingle has been much more of a Velcro bird with me. Much better behaved with the step up.
I am in love with all of my animals...cats, dog and fids.
