Hi All - I have a couple of updates on my fids.

My white front amazon went to a family who rehabilitates birds. He stepped right up for everyone in the family. They took a week to make a decision about him and decided to take him. It was a hard decision for me but he wasn't working out in my home.

Whisper - is attacking my Severe and I don't like it. I don't like keeping Whisper in his cage either. Whisper will jump down off his tree or his cage and run towards Jingle. If I get there first I usually can keep him away from Jingle but one time I watched what would happen and Jingle got bit. I was fortunate that Jingle hasn't lost his toe yet...but I guess it could still happen. I have a friend who really likes blue front amazons. He may take him or my son has said that he would like him. Decision not completely made yet but I don't like leaving my birds in the cage because they can't get along or won't stay on their tree like they should. Whisper also chased two of the cats. (Not for long on my watch. I keep towel and the dowel rod that he steps up on ready and close by.)

Another Severe coming into the home. A family that I know has come on some hard times with medical problems with their son. They have a Severe that needs a home - Rocky - is what I call a special Severe. He has a 5th toe on one foot and a smaller left wing. His beak is really long and they have had it trimmed once in the last four months. However, I got a picture of his cage and the mom did admit they haven't been able to find too many toys that he likes to chew. I mentioned that my Severe didn't like the brightly colored toys and she said that he did like to chew his dowel perch a lot. I can't wait to get Rocky home to my house. Just a couple of more weekends.

Yeti continues to come to the front of the cage with the door closed and let me pet her...but as soon as I open the door she goes to the farthest corner. She will let me pet her but she still doesn't trust me. But she is a good bird and funny. Yeti prefers the natural colored toys.

Jingle - got bit by Whisper about 10 days ago and bled like crazy. I didn't have any flour in the house and at the time didn't have a bird first aid kit (I now have one). The wound has healed and I don't think we are going to lose the toe but I can't say never. ;) Jingle has finally figured out how to really chew some wood toys and is enjoying herself. She really loves the natural wood toys and that is just fine with me. 2x4s are fairly cheap. :D All the chewing has cleaned up her beak and it looks much better but I also put a Manu mineral rock in her cage and I have seen her using that. Since she got bit Jingle has been much more of a Velcro bird with me. Much better behaved with the step up.

I am in love with all of my animals...cats, dog and fids.

Another update.

Whisper is a very curious boy and this week he has been very sweet. Although I know he does bite he has stolen a piece of my heart. He's a keeper and if I find him a female friend I would be very happy. :)

Yeti seems to have regressed in her trust of me. Could be because several times I have gone to touch her I have shocked her. I need to remember to touch something before I touch her nose. :( I bought her a new cage this past weekend and put it together last night. She needed a much bigger cage. Over the next couple of nights I will put new perches and toys in it for her and hopefully this weekend she will go into it. Right now she can see the cage. In a couple of days I will move the cages close together.

Jingle is so vocal and loves to be out of her cage. She is getting better about going back in but I still have to do a lot of coaxing. She is so funny. If I get something like a towel or sweatshirt to move her into the cage she screams but as soon as I pick her up she relaxes and settles down into my arms. I can't wait to see how she does with the new Severe coming in this weekend. The next 30 days are going to be hard on me. (And no I probably won't give it the full 30 days but I'm going to try.)

Rocky - the addition to my flock. I pick him up in four more days - Saturday. I am so excited.

Wow...that's quite an update. I can't have my BFA Sassy out with my other fids. I can have Cisco and Peanut out together but they don't pay any attention to each other. Sassy will go after Cisco's toes if she goes to his cage and nipped him once but it was only a scratch thank God! I hope to eventually be able to have Sassy and Peanut out together but I don't know...Sassy is, well, sassy;). I'd be very upset if she hurt Peanut. Can't wait to see pics of your new severe...and the rest of your flock.

Whisper did quite well the last couple of nights and has stayed on his side of the room. I was hoping that since Jingle and Yeti supposedly spent the last 10-12 years together they would get along. I think Jingle over preens Yeti because about once an evening she yelps and goes back into her cage...but it's soon over and then they are back to preening each other again.

The fact that you have Sassy and aren't able to let them out together has helped me hang in there with Whisper. I figured if other people can do it I can at least try. But I was pretty upset when he bit Jingle on the toe.

I know what you mean about being upset about the bite! I was very upset too when Sassy bit Cisco. But Sassy and I have a "thing". Can't explain it really. :07::07:

I think it's a Zon thing. I don't need Whisper to cuddle with...I just need to know that he isn't going to bite me so hard.

Yes, I think it is definitely a zon thing..lol..and maybe especially a blue fronted zon thing.:54:

I don't cuddle with Sassy either ...that's just scary:eek: She bit us hard for the first 2 months I had her. Then she went for about 7 months and didn't bite me at all. Then she got me 3 times in a week and a half...once was right through my thumb nail and it's just now almost grown back out. Maybe Whisper is hormonal too??

I'm hoping he's hormonal. Whew to us if he isn't.

Yeah - I'm afraid it might be a blue front thing...they are awfully cute when they want to be.

Yes they are!! Sassy starts with her "I love you, I love you, I love you good girl...I good Biiiiiirrd!" right after she bites me:32:

Pecker, my BFA was the funniest bird ever... and never, ever under any circumstances bit anyone... She did throw stomp your feet, flap your wings, swear at you [in context] hissy fits... but she never, ever applied bite pressure.

She used to launch to my shoulder the second I walked in the door, seranade me with a song, and then stick her head in my eye socket...

God I miss that bird!!!

However, I also had a foster BFA who had to be short clipped, because during breeding season, the minute you opened his cage door, he would launch at your face...

Frankly, I don't miss that bird all that much...

I'm sorry - that made me laugh but I know it's not funny. Tonight I have to finish with putting the bowls and things on the new cage and maybe put on the play yard. Hopefully Whisper will stay on his tree and just watch me.

Sooo, Jingle again was visiting Yeti. She makes herself quite at home in Yeti's cage. Last night she was ripping up the newspaper and since I was cleaning the cages I didn't mind (I hadn't gotten to Yeti's yet). Before I got to cleaning Yeti's cage the two of them were going at it. Both of them had their butts in the air...they were regurgitating for each other and sharing it. I was fascinated. I always wondered how the birds managed the beak thing without getting stuck or hurting each other but they were doing quite fine last night.

Usually when Yeti sees me watching she will stop what she's doing but not last night. Last night the two of them just kept a going.

'Tis the season! :D
