I've had this bird for 3 weeks now, and things are going great! I haven't taken him/her to a vet yet, because I am short on money money (also, in case the owner does show up). I'd like to at least get him/her sexed soon, but haven't done it yet. I'll refer to it as "he" for convenience, and because I think it might be a boy. I also haven't decided on a name yet.

He is very sweet and snuggly. He was very shy at first, but is warming up. I bought him a flight suit, which he isn't crazy about, but tolerates once it is on. I took him out a couple times this weekend, and he adjusted well. At first he was really shy with strangers, but now he has gone from running away from strangers to stepping up to them. :)

He is pretty mellow most of the time. He does get pretty silly though. When he's relaxed and happy, he often inflates his crop with air (vet who he stayed with for a week says he does it for fun), and dances around all silly, inflating and deflating. He also acts like he wants to regurgitate a lot, usually on my fingers or ear. Yuck. Also, he plucks hairs off us humans from time to time!

He likes to snuggle on my shoulder at night. He doesn't like to have his feathers ruffled (tolerates right above his nose though), but he does like to be kissed on the cheeks and head. If I start kissing him and telling him how cute he is, he'll start inflating like a balloon, haha. He has a super cute voice too.

I noticed that his beak needed grooming (very flakey, and the woman at the bird store showed me a bit on beak grooming). He actually let me gently hold his head and file it with a nail file! You can still see the flakes a bit, but it's better than it was. The sides of his beak were jagged when I got him, but they seem to be almost completely smoothed out on their own.

He's definitely much better groomed than he was when I got him. He had a lot of pin feathers on his head that had obviously not been groomed. After a few days with us, he had groomed them all out.

He does test me sometimes though. For instance, he has this thing will peck/nip my ear, starting softly, and getting harder until it hurts! I caught on, and now I stop him the first time, even if it doesn't hurt yet. =P

Next order of business is to teach him to hang out in a scarf/sweater so I can take him in stores. I think he has a good temperament for it.

I've been too lazy to put more of them on my computer, but there are a couple pictures in my albums. I've taken a whole bunch though, and I will post them soon.

What remarkable progress you've made with him in only 3 short weeks! You must be SO happy. I love hearing stories such as this one. :)

Now he needs a name ;)

I am glad to hear he is going well! :) That's so strange but cute about the crop puffing lol!

That's good that you found him, I feel terrible for whoever lost him :(

I feel bad for them too. I posted on Craigslist about it, and have no responses. I also checked the ads for the surrounding area. None.

I think he was loved a lot at his old home, because he's so well behaved. I would miss him a lot.

The owner of Bird Paradise in LA looked at his feet and beak and thinks he is between 2 and 4 years old.
