About a weak ago i was having trouble weaning my cockateil. so i reached out to you guys and i got alot of help.
He is not fully weaned yet, I still give him formula but he eats half of what he used to eat. I still feed him 3 times a day. he is given a sunflower seeds less mix. oh and his name is crippi
i have a few questions to ask. what is the healthy weight of a 9 week old cockatiel?
Thank you GaleriaGila, itzjbean and Ellen D for all your help:)

what a cutie, question though; what's all in the bottom of his cage?

What a beauty.

He is a cute one!!

Cockatiels can range anywhere between 70 - 110 grams when they wean, my Ember came to me at 64 grams at 3 months old so it took a bit of time to get some weight on him. He's still growing, I should weigh him again to see what he's at now as it's been several months. Boo, my other male cockatiel 7 years old, weighs around 90 grams. My hen was a big girl, around 115 grams.

I would not be putting sawdust in the bottom of his cage tray, that's asking for an Upper Respiratory issue/infection...First of all, as soon as it gets wet it starts to grow both Bacteria and Fungi, and your bird is breathing that right in all day long, and this is NO BUENO at all. Also, sawdust as well as any other type of "bedding" that consists of small particles floats through the air, and again, your bird is breathing that into his lungs and specifically right into his Air-Sacs! Birds have a very unique and extremely sensitive Respiratory System. Their lungs do not actually expand at all, because they have the Air-Sacs, which the air they breath-in goes into, which in-turn allows them to fly...So they absolutely cannot breath-in any particles, fumes, smoke, etc. And sawdust, any type of bedding/wood chips, corn-cob bedding, crushed walnut shell bedding, etc. should not be anywhere near them...

Please remove the sawdust from the cage-tray, disinfect it with extremely hot water and white vinegar, or even Bleach as long as you rinse it very, very well, so that you kill any and all Bacteria, Fungi, and for that matter Mold, and then just put down plain old newspaper or Butcher's paper in the tray.
