Hi everyone, I thought I'd give an update on Lola. Here is my original thread:
http://www.parrotforums.com/behavioral/26478-help-please.html
I talked with her vet, and he basically reaffirmed many of the things you all told me (wise people here). He said to lengthen her sleep hours (she's in bed for 14 hours now). He also said that the best thing for her would be to eliminate her triggers. He told me removing the ball or any toys she adopts is probably a good thing. (He did say he doesn't recommend removing real eggs, since it causes them to lay another, and that's not good). He suggested changing her cage and room around to be different (unfamiliar) to her. We took this a step further and have set up her old large cage in the living room. Unfortunately this means she spends much more time caged than she has in the last five years, but so far she seems to be accepting it okay. She still sleeps in her room in her small cage like she always did, but other than sleeping she's not allowed in there. We keep the door shut so if she does get down and wander back there, she can't get in. She's still a little anxious and wants in there but she's doing much better than she was. My husband still has to get her out of her cage in the morning (something I always did before), but once she's out she's letting me handle her. We only had one incident where I was walking with her past her room and her door was ajar. I went to close it and she nailed my arm, luckily through my shirt. No blood, only a small bruise, lol!
Anyway, that's where we are at so far. I don't particularly like having the huge cage in middle of my living room, but it is what it is. Hopefully it's not permanent, lol!
Thanks again to everyone who took time to share their experiences with me. Hopefully we get through this and can get back to our old trusting, cuddling relationship!
