For anyone following my last thread, Audrey has a bacterial infection. We went back to the vet on Thursday and they confirmed the bacteria had not yet completely gone. They put her on stronger antibiotics. She also suggested we do a test for psittacosis because of the fact that I had been sick for some time too so we went ahead. They gave her an injection as a 'just in case' precaution.
I called back today to talk to the vet about her test results. She said the results were 'tricky'. If she was an adult bird it would be a negative but she did have some antibody reaction and because shes a baby and she's been sneezing, they are going to take it as a positive and begin the necessary treatments. Poor little darling. The bacterial infection and the psittacosis are two different problems. Fingers crossed for my poor baby girl that she gets better asap. She is going good though, when I tell her its medicine time she still happily steps up to take it and only very little resistance haha
I've also pin pointed the time to Audrey's sickness to a recent visit to a couple of bird shops. I was shopping for birthday toys for her and was also giving the birds pats at the time. While I always wash my hands afterwards and disinfect any toys or branches that go near Audrey, Ive been told its still possible to carry the disease home on my clothes or hair etc I don't know for sure if this is the cause but the timing fits right down to the day!
