- I have two parakeets and a rescued Cockatoo named Amos
Hi guys!
I posted a while back asking for help/advice with a rescued 20 yr old umbrella cockatoo who was never able to be out of his cage from his previous family and got a lot of great information and help.
I just wanted to update those who gave advice and let you know what a sweetheart is really is.
It has been a few months now in his new home and he is doing fantastic!
He is the biggest sweetheart! He has allowed me to give him a few showers and his feathers are not as "dusty" as they once were and he is molting now and allows me to help him with the new feathers growing around his head!
He allows me to touch him with no biting, he watches me clean his cage every week then proceeds to make a mess as soon as I am finished haha
He has got lots of toys and fun wood to chew on and enjoys very much chewing... everything. lol
We are still learning to perch, since he does have a handicap claw it has been a challenge but he is definitely trying very hard. He doesn't like doing it all the time so when he gives me a few tries I don't force him to do it any more.
He wakes me up every morning and makes sure I say goodbye before I leave for work. and when I get home he gets so happy, it makes me so happy. I love it. He loves to "talk" (Scream) around dinner time till it's about time to go to bed!
And he gets along very well with my Green Cheek and has gotten used to the dogs.
He is a fantastic bird and I am very happy to have given him a new life. He has come out of his shell and is a perfect fit in my household.
I love him very much!
