Rudy - Hybrid Ruby Macaw Born 6/6/15 Scarlet Mother/Green Wing Father - Oliver BFA RIP 3/15/15 @ 34yo. Without you, I would not have Rudy. Thank you!
:red1::red1::red1:This may be a more taxidermist type of item.

I know that all of us who have parrots have probably collected their feathers at one time or another.

I have a nearly 3yo GWM I now believe I have enough of his feathers to build a brother (or sister). I wonder, aside from getting a styrofoam and a tool to create a Macaw, whether anyone has ever done something similar and where did they get the form?.

I can get a Hawk or Eagle but i need the shape to be able to glue on the feathers consistently to how is today. I think it would be a fun endeavor to at least try .. Lets put aside the value of doing something like this.

While it might be tedious in the long run, to do this form of taxidermy.... I wonder if anyone has suggestions and comments?.

Thank you for your replies! fire away!!:red1::red1::red1:

I am absolutely enchanted by the idea.
You BET I've collected tons of Rb feathers.
If you know a nearby sculptor, they could probably carve you a parrot shape of your choice out of a styrofoam chunk. If I were your neighbor, I'd gladly do it. I've carved plenty of styrofoam, coated it with Bondo, finished it, and made some very cool stuff.
I love your idea!!!!
Please figure a way to do it!

Hey thanks for the comment. I saw your artistic abilities earlier today! WOW!

Kind of an interesting thought, in that the tool.. which is like a potato peeler with a heated wire that can carve the form down to size to match what would be needed as a base to glue the feathers on..

You are the skilled artist. There might be a really cool niche market here. I have time and sort of, kind of, toying with the thought, however when it comes right down to it. I would rather just buy the form that Fits my GWM the best! Take over any time!!

You're high tech with that tool thingie. I haven't carved styro since we lived in New Mexico, where i could go outdoors year 'round, fire up the grill, and heat a coat-hanger (with oven-mitt handle) to make the shapes.

You know what? Maybe try some Googling for styrofoam or even balsa wood parrot forms. Thank you for the compliment! Surely somebody makes parrot shapes for the floral or cake decorating or crafting folks.

I would have thought so.. If I remember right... I found myself limited at the point of taxidermists websites who have Styrofoam eagles. which then led me to the tool. that best carves the form into the size and or shape i need.

while I am not limited. Ideally, the feathers would be best shown from an open winged standpoint. Of course that's an opinion....:p

Then again, the more I think about it, the GWM is a dull looking red/gray underside of his wings....
