Hi, I have just got an Indian ring neck called ringo he is approx 18 month old
And I am his third owner, think he has not been treated very well. He is very
Scared and won't go near my hand, had to catch him with a towel when I collected him in order to put him in transport cage. He bit the hell out of my finger ooch. What a bite!

However was just wanting some advice on how to go about taming him,
and what technique would be best.
Would love to hear from someone who has had similar and how long this may take.

Thank you

Hi there,
I bought a green asian parrot a week ago, he is 3 months and im the 2nd owner. Im facing the same problem. My parrot is extremely scared, he jumps inside the cage whenever i go close to him. Doesnt let me cuddle him doesnt chirp at all. He chirped once only on 1st day when i had to hold him forcefully to shift him in the cage. Eversince then im taking care not to hold him and do anything forcefully. I hv kept him near the window where he cud see pigeons. Dont know what to do to make him chirp and wanted to be cuddled. I feel a bit upset cuz i dont want him to be scared of anything..want him to be happy.

First off give him space and don't invade his space. Show him that you are no threat and make sure all your experiences are good with him. Once he is settled in and you feel he is ready try offering millet spray from your hand. Millet spray is long so he can eat the treat while staying a small distance from your hands.

Keep your sessions short, and be prepared to back step to we're Ringo feels comfortable.

I also recommend buying a clicker and looking up touch training.

Thanks copperarabian. I think Ryalls and i shall try it :). I read somewhere that its important for a bird to feel safe with the ppl and surrounding so i opened up his cage so that he can walk around in the house and his fear gets away gradually. But the problem is he has climbed up over the curtains rails now i dont know how to bring him back in the cage. Is it a good idea if i keep the food in his cage so that he comes back to his cage by himself? Also shud i let him come out of his cage daily?

Thank you for your reply, will do. Got cut his flight feathers how long should I wait so not to traumatise him once more?

Well if you plan to clip, I'd probably wait until he's more settled; is getting someone else to clip him an option? At least then, you're not the 'evil one', and the experience shouldn't be attributed to you.

I could be well off the mark here, as I don't clip, but lots of people do - they'll chime in. ;)
