My neighbor had this parrot land on his shoulder this morning. He gave it to me because of the chickens and ducks I raise. Very tame bird. I think it's still young. When I come around it it starts flapping it's wings like wild baby birds do so the parents will feed it. Just gave it a real small amount of cooked egg white. Seems to have calmed down. Squawks alot and likes to be my shoulders. Need all advice I can get to help it out. Thanks:confused:

The number one thing you can do is start by trying to locate the rightful owner. Parrots can be fed plain and unsalted/unsweetened grains and beans (fully cooked) along with washed fresh fruits and vegetables (no avocado, no onion, no mushrooms, no fruit pits or apple seeds). Do not feed them wild bird seed or chicken feed.

IF no one comes forward to claim the parrot after a reasonable search, then you will want to have it checked over by an avian vet and buy a high quality pelleted diet to feed in addition to the fresh foods (though the bird will be just fine eating bland people food and produce for a few days if the owner does come forward).

Facebook has a page called Parrot 911 where people post lost/found birds. You might also call local vets - especially avian/exotics - to see if anyone has reported their bird missing.

Thanks very much for the reply. Looking for owner at this time and will be posting signs.

Thanks so much for caring for this Quaker and attempting to find the owner. Folks who lose parrots for whatever reason can be frantic with fear, are deeply concerned, and racked with guilt until reunited.
