Safira (B&G Macaw)~~ Gracie (CAG) ~ Lucy (CAG)
My macaw is accident prone and it doesn't seem to matter what cage she's in. The night-frights have stopped, at least at night.. I don't know what the heck she does to do the below.

She has no metal toys, nothing sharp, the wood she has she doesn't chew to make sharp.. she likes rippig apart paper.

I'm debating putting her in a wide, but not tall cage like they do when they're weaning the babies. What do you guys think? She does this often, there is almost always a scratch on her face somewhere (her nails are not sharp.)

Bongo is still so clumsy that she bumps her head every 5 minutes. its usually almost red. She is getting to be more agile. could she have bumped it against the cage bars or fallen when you werent looking?

Hi. Is it blood or some sort of dye from food or a red toy the she chews or rubs her face on? Just asking. Alison and sweetie pie:D

I was going to ask if it could possibly be dye from the toys or whatever?

:(

She probably fell, yes, but she does th is a lot. So it's had me considering putting her in a smaller cage till she stops.

Alison, her nostril is pink and swollen and she's got two scrapes - one which scraped the skin off so blood is seen underneath. I try not to medicate them too much, I just keep an eye to make sure the pinkness, swelling goes down. They're both fresh, hell if I know what she did.

Definatly not dye. Bruises, bumps, scrapes, scratches.

Could she have possibly been rubbing herself on her cage bars ?
Maybe she gave herself a boo boo from doing that a few times ?
Poor baby :(

Oh , I forgot to add , could her ring have a defect on it that there could be a
sharp edge ? Also, check out the latches on her cage , maybe on the inside
there is a sharp edge not visible to your side ? Maybe her food dishes or
where they are placed , maybe something there has a sharp edge ?

Try looking at the cage from her angle.
Hope you find out how she is doing this. Poor girl :(

I wouldn't be surprised if it came from a 'night fright' during a day time nap. She did that to me once when I was in the room.. was napping and suddenly woke up with a screech and BAM.. bottom of the cage. I'll check for sharp edges. Who knows how she's doing it. Gonna bubble wrap her

Her wings are clipped, yes. I thought about leaving her out on a playstand but she's an explorer. She jumps down and takes walks around the living room and kitchen, so she can only be out with supervision.

Yeah, those beaks sure can cause some damage when unsupervised, I know this firsthand, (my U2). I wish you luck, my dear, I don't have any other solution than being out of the cage, which is unrealistic for most.

Merlin was like that when he was a baby. Thats one of the reasons I decided to let him go fully flighted. He hurt himself so much by falling, that I couldnt stand to see him bruised & bloody.

Thats why I let my guys grow their wings . My rehome , Rosie
had horrible feathers from plucking and shredding. Everytime
she was out , she would try to fly at least once , but would land
with a horrible thud and always injured herself. Now , she
has grown in her flight feathers and is looking more like a
Rose Breasted should AND she is happiest because she can at least
glide to the ground without wrecking . I feel that my guys are much
better off with their wings intact. It also took her quite a while to
gain her confidence to fly again because she was afraid of falling :(

Haha.. If she would stop breaking her flight feathers.. maybe she could learn to fly again. -.- and tail feathers would be helpful. Its going to be a long molt.

Awww , poor girl. Hopefully whatever she is doing , you get to the
bottom of it. She is a very pretty girl :). I want her ! :p
I would try wrapping the cage in bubble wrap ;)
Or at least getting her a crash helmet. I have a dog that needs a
crash helmet everytime he goes outside.
