Alexandrine Ringneck,
about to be getting a Jardine's
Hey all, I was wondering if I could get some opinions on my bird's beak and whether or not it seems too long. It looks long to me, but based on photos I've seen of everyone's birds it doesn't look that long. I've noticed that when my bird chews on toys, the tip of his upper beak is almost never touching/grinding against the toy, so I'm not sure how to keep it worn down.

Also, my bird just got his second pink feather on his neck. Does anyone happen to know if a ring comes suddenly in one molt? Or is it just like a gradual replacement of feathers over time?

Hi

Congratulations on your first red feather!

if you look around it you should see other red pins coming through.

By the end of this moult you'll probably have slightly ragged but recognisable rings, they will look more even and polished in the second moult.

The ring seems early based on his still greyed eyes...maybe I'm just used to white eyes now!

On a completely unrelated note, my guy just spoke his first words today!

He could always kinda say "go back." It wasn't clear, and half my friends would agree that's what he was saying and the other half wouldn't. But today he said "what are you doing" very clearly. Naturally, I was in the bathroom, and he only says what are you doing when I'm out of eyesight from him, but it's pretty awesome. I wonder if he's actually speaking it in context?

That's awesome! I would say, yep, he's saying it in context. If you talk to him in a conversational way, that's the best method and he will speak to you also in a conversational way. I can sit and have a conversation with Sweet Pea, it's so neat. They are so interactive and that's a big part of their charm! :)
