Hi im new this site so apologies in advance if im breaking any forum rules. :)

I was just wondering would it be ok to put a conure in the same cage with a kakariki? i currently have the kakariki (hand tame) only a few weeks old and was hoping to get the conure some time early after x mas, hand tame aswell. would their be conflict in the cage?

Any help or advice be much appreciated.
Thanks, Jamie

You have to intruducing the bird by having them in separate cages close. And introducing them outside the cage. If that works then you could trye to have them in the same cage. The best is to have a new cage when you put them together. You have to watch them werry carefully, and if agression separate them directly

Ok brilliant, ill try that! thanks for the help :)

Unless the birds seem to want to be together, it is often not a good idea to mix species in the same cage. Territory issues, breeding behavior, and size dominance can come into play. I've had birds that went back and forth, in and out of each others cage, but each had his own cage. They should be about same size, and temperment. I had a friend whose macaw killed a budgie that he put into its cage.

Personally I would not recommend keep two different types of birds in the same cage, it might be done successfully, but I just wouldnt recommend it!

OK thanks guys for the adivce, think i might jus keep them in seperate cages! ill see how it goes when i get the conure, if anything id imagine rico will be the troublemaker, certainly living up to his kakariki reputation so far anyway lol :)
