English Budgie
I was going to wait to post when he/she came home, but I can't hold it a secret any longer since I have now paid for him/her and took some photos today. :)

Since Raven and Griffin are now becoming a real threat to Twigs on a regular basis, it was time to reconsider "appropriate" friends for my budgie. Ever since Pix (budgie) died last year, Twigs has been desperate to make friends. Since the parrots have proven themselves to be too dangerous for him, and increasingly more so, I had to make this decision...

This bird was weaned this week, but they won't let it go home without waiting a week longer (to make sure it's eating well, and keeping weight on). I LOVE that!! How often do you hear of a store that does that?! Omar's Exotic Birds. He has 4 excellent stores in SoCal (one franchise).

A new double flight cage will be coming, and this adorable handfed English budgie. (The darker one on the right). :) Look how cute with the eyes closed!

In different light you can see a lot of blue.. Don't worry, I'm not squishing him ;)

With a flash lighting things up, you can see the blue overlay on the yellow-olive.

...and just for fun, Illiger's Macaw, Golden Conure, and Hy... This store owner breeds most of these birds that he sells.

He's a beauty for sure! From here, he looks like a boy, although the cere could change with age. But boy/boy budgie pairs get extremely closely bonded, so no worries. Can't wait to see Twig and his new friend together! You made the right decision. :)
Ps..I also think it's great that they won't release him until they're sure he's ready.

How exciting! He/she is a stunning color and looks very healthy. Aren't english budgies a bit bigger than 'normal' ones? I bet Twigs will be thrilled to have a little buddy and boy does this little bird have a diverse flock to come home to! So excited to watch this precious babies progress:)

Congratulations Twigs! You're new roommate is adorable! Can't wait to hear what you think of your new companion.

Julie, what a sweet addition to your flock!

Thanks everyone :D!

Chris, you think boy? My first choice is a male, but I'm open to a girl too, especially after learning what to do to keep them from laying. Look at this link...
Budgie Genders- 3 Weeks to Adult - Cute Little Birdies Aviary
If going by what this breeder says, it looks like a female to me. I do plan to DNA from Avian Biotech.

April, yes the English are bigger. Twigs is a small American at about 30 grams. The baby was weighed at 49 grams a week or so ago before it was finished weaning, and will fill out as it matures. 50-something grams?
Once (at the same store) I saw some GIANT mutant sized English budgies lol. They were no kidding, between the size of a normal English and a Cockatiel! I assume it's just in the bloodlines.

YIPPEE!!! Twigs will have a buddy again, and SUCH a beautiful budgie, too!! :D Love the colors!!!

Did you want to take the Hy with you, too? :54: Just kidding!

Congrats, the colors are stunning! Twigs and him are going to have a blast in a flight cage, can't wait to see pictures of that too :D

Any ideas for a name?

Oh how cute !!! What colors :) Never been around one that was hand tame.

How adorable! I am so glad that Twig's will have a friend again. I think English budgies are so cute. Sounds like a great store too!

Awww...look at that little cutie! He/she is adorable! Twigs will be so happy!

Congratulations on the soon-to-be new addition! He/she is beautiful, and I'm looking forward to seeing your fid baby in its new digs!

Thanks everyone :). I'm excited, and Twigs has no idea he's going to have a friend of his own kind again, and a much more spacious cage! He's going to be so happy!

Did you want to take the Hy with you, too? :54: Just kidding!

Lol, nope ;) now that's just TOO big!! I wanted the Illigers and the conure though! I'm going smaller and smaller these days lol, I admit I have such a passion for little birds. I must be ever vigilant with myself against small bird MBS, it's so much easier to justify that they're so small what's one more haha. I am maxed out though!!

I do love to admire the beauty of the Hy's, but everytime I see one I can't get over being absolutely amazed at how big the head and beak are in person. That head is so much larger than any other macaw, and much bigger than they look in pictures. Just awesome. Omar also breeds them so he seasonally has them for sale. That particular one was just boarding while his owners were on vacation. His feather quality was terrible. Looked like he went through a tornado or never had a bath. :(

Any ideas for a name?

I do, but I'm not saying yet because I'm just not sure. I have several in mind ;)

Twigs is going to be thrilled with his new friend! What a gorgeous budgie, the colours are amazing:)
Wow, that Golden conure is gorgeous, too.

Look at this cute pear shaped treat cup I found :). It has a little mirror inside.

Cute treat cup, Julie! It's so sweet you're doing this for Twigs and in the process you'll make another a little bird very happy too.

I've never had the opportunity to meet a Hy, I'd like to.
