Holly is 19 years old and has always been fed a seed diet. She'll eat a pellet once in a while...but still prefers all the mixture that her seed blend gives her...which includes nuts and dried fruits.

I'm trying to slowly move her to a pellet diet, but I can't start decreasing the seed and increasing the pellet if she doesn't eat it.

Any recommendations to get her to eat it better? It is colorful and smells highly of fruit.

I personally don't believe in a all pellet diet. I feel the only way to do that is to feed Harrisons, that does have seed in its pellet mixture, but most birds won't eat it. Kaytee and Pretty bird have a natural looking pellet that has worked for me to get some of my birds to eat more pellets. Pretty Bird Gold actually is very palatable. During our conferences and CE classes we have found that birds do need some seed, so I feed a mixture of both and they also get fresh fruits and veggies and people food. Good luck.:green1:

I agree with you, and typically add my birds to my grocery list.... make sure I have fruits and veggies, make sure I have grain breads....etc.....

I guess I'll just continue doing what I'm doing. :)

I just attended a conference on parrot nutrition by phoenix landing. They are saying that if you feed all the right kinds of fresh foods you do not need to feed pellets to have a healthy parrot. You just spend a long time in the kitchen. I do feed Harrisons because the vets reccommended it and my bird will eat them well. They are a convience to the guardian and have all the right ingredients parrots need. Please check out the following site:
