So my booger Einstein use to step up from inside the cage but one day that stopped. I let him be and would get him once he came off his cage. Well now I'm determined to get him to go back to stepping up from inside the cage. My fingers and hand has taken a beating. Lol. But when he gets me and holds on I don't react to it and take him right out. I don't want him to know by biting me that he wins. :) Tonight was the first night of me working with him. When I put him back in his cage I held him in my hand and he got up on his perch and I continued to have him while rubbing his beak and around his eyes which he rathered enjoyed. So I am very hopeful I will get my baby boy to step up from inside again.

Every time you force your bird to step up, even after a bite, you are losing, not winning. Birds don't bite for no reason at all. Einstein is probably trying to tell you something and since you aren't paying attention, he's biting you for not understanding. Therefore, you lost. It's not that he won and you lost, because in reality, so did he. He was unable to tell you what he wanted or how he felt and bit out of frustration.

Having a parrot is like having a foreign person in your home and you cant understand each other! Mannerisms are going to be different so the two of you are going to do things differently. You wouldn't communicate through force, but rather through trial and error. To see what works and what doesn't. To learn to understand each other.

When you are working with a parrot and you get bit, that's an error. Something went wrong. The communication threshold has a gap in it. You need to work on bridging that gap and figuring out what works... i.e. how to communicate what you want to your bird without getting bitten. How to make it a positive experience for both you and him.

I guess everyone has different techniques for things. I have birds that now step up for me from doing what I do. They bounce up and down when they see me coming to let them out and are great about it. Quakers are notorious for being cage territorial but with work that can be changed. I will definitely update down the road.
