Someone recently posted a 'Tropic Sun' Macaw for rehoming on a facebook page I follow (Birds for Sale in Iowa), and I was wondering if maybe there was a mistake in the identification of this macaw. It's 6 years old and they got it from a pet store/breeder when it was young.

I'm fairly confident that there is not a hybrid macaw with this name, and the macaw looks mostly Military and Blue and Gold to me, but they were sure it wasn't a Milligold. Possibly it was a Military bred to a Milligold? Thoughts? I wish I could have her but it's just not in the works at the moment as we live in a duplex and both work full time. Darn!

Thanks for the help macaw folks!

I've found that most cases when it comes to hybrids they come with many many many names. "Tropic Sun" might just be what this person thinks the hybrid is.

Except I can't find any reference to tropic sun. Might be a scam. I think miligold might be the best guess here.

If it was a craigslist ad, its most likely a Gottchagold macaw.

I don't think it's a scam, her facebook page is active and shows pictures of the bird there. She's located near me. Anyways, I think what happened was she got it from a pet store/breeder who didn't really have any idea what they were doing/what hybrids are and sold it to them. Most people who end up rehoming their macaws like this I feel were ill-equipped/informed about them and how much of a commitment they are in the first place. I can't find anything online about Tropic Sun Macaws, so that's why I thought she was maybe misinformed.
