Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Looking for other options besides pine nuts that I can use for Salty's training sessions? Generally I will use 12 to 15 pine nuts broken in half or smaller for each session. Salty will sell his soul to the devil or build me a Volkswagen or even do tricks for pine nuts.
Are shelled unsalted sunflower seeds better?
pumpkin seeds?
Chia seeds?

He scoffs at nutraberries, avicakes, almond slices and walnut pieces.

Thanks for you opinions...

Chiqui will sell her soul for yogurt covered anything.

Mine love safflower seeds. The seeds are small, so not too fattening if you're using them for training. Then the drawback is the shells getting all over unlike the pinenuts.

I have a small little container (I think something like pickles came in it before) and I'll usually put a few different types of treats in and tell the fids to "pick one."

I have safflower, sunflower, pine nuts, walnut pieces, pumpkin seeds, etc. I also like this bountiful harvest mix off mysafebirdstore as a treat mix too.

Where do you all get the pine nuts and pistschio nuts etc...neither our pet shop or the store that sells parrot food here sell them and all I can get is human grade nuts and Mr Biggles wont eat any human grade nuts. Is there an online store that sells them who would ship to Ireland ? Mr Biggles gets Peanuts or Sunflower seeds for treats only

Popcorn! It even nips of shredded cheese. Parker loves either but charges me down especially for cheese. I try to use cheese only for special occasions or when I want to make big leaps in short times, but I think since amazons need more protein than ekkies it wouldn't be so bad for salty.

I get all mine from Nuts.com Great place to order from

Popcorn is also good.

Cheerios :) BB loves those

I get mine from the grocery store, so they are human grade. I'm not sure what you have available over there in Ireland, but pine nuts are pretty common to find, you might find them with salad toppings, or you might try a health food store.

I know there are a few places that have international shipping, like windycityparrot, but I have no idea how expensive it would be.

I got a few different kinds of human grade nuts in the health store here in town and Mr Biggles wont touch them they are supposed to be organic and natural with no additives and yet my little guy who would die for a peanut wont eat their peanuts either let alone any of the other nuts including pine nuts and pistachio and almonds and brazil nuts and the list goes on as I have tried almost all the nuts in the store...Peter Pan wont eat them either so Im guessing they are not as natural and without additives as the packaging says ...thanks for the link...I will take a look and see what the costs are ...also Thank you Chtistine for nuts.com link I eill also check that link out but I have noticed that the nuts in my parrot food my guys will eat and enjoy just not the identical same nuts from the health store, so as long as they eat the nuts when I purchase them I dont mind spending a bit extra getting the nuts for them within reason of course as Im not a millionaire :)

Bacca will do anything for a piece of dried papaya.

We have a good bird store locally (DJ Feathers) that has lots of treats. We also have some unroasted pistachos for her. She's a hoot because we'll put them on the perch and if she can't open it she'll drop it on the floor, climb down off the perch, pick it up and carry it over to us and drop it again like "OK, the crack's not big enough, you open it."

I'll have to try some of these. I just get worried that at 15 pine nuts every night, I'm loading salty up with too much fats. Some I have never seen in the markets, some I already know he turns his nose up at. Cheese, huh? I use that for dog training, works great, never thought to use it for birds.. where do they get cheese from in the jungle, right?

Scratch cheese. Tried a piece, Salty just looked at it, then me, and was like, 'you're kidding, right?' The dog got most of the piece.

My local go to, has an awesome small sunflower seed, dull! It is tiny! But JoJo loves em! I also buy walnuts in bulk and freeze. Break into very small pieces.
FYI, Mr. Wrench13, you and I both are in the age group where we should be eating nuts every day. If you look into the stats on what it does for you, you will see what I mean!
Crap, it isn't just over the hill gangs that benifit from this simple addition to their diet!
Our feathered friends are way ahead of us in diet!

I've also done coconut flakes. he's not insane for them but they do in a pinch.

Oh I love everything nuts.... nuts don't like me. They just kinda sit' there in my guts, grinding away.

Ooh too much information LOL

BTW I have purchased some 'Tidymix Blueberry & Coconut Puffed Crunch' Popcorn - he's not overly keen but just thought I put it out as a possible. :)

Perjo loves sunflower kernels, the actual meat of the sunflower seed.

Cashews crushed can work well, dried green peas.
