A sun conure, budgie. Miss my cockatiel Sam. See you someday I hope Sam! And my little girl Sky a budgie that passed away in 2007 Thunder my budgie passed away too last September. Miss you little budd
I made my first trip in our new RV Travel Trailer with my 3 birds, a sun conure, cockatiel, and a budgie. All did very well but it was only a local camp ground about 10 miles away.

We would like to take them on a few more "local" camping trips so they can become more familiar with traveling and being in the RV.

Someday maybe farther but I'm not sure how well it would go. :)

How far have you taken your birds in a vehicle? Of course, caged while riding.

How did it go? And, any tips on farther trips traveling?

Thanks!

Hmm, Merlin has done a 3 hours car journey, think that's the longest.

He's done plenty of 3-4 hour long bus/train combos. But he absolutely loved travelling, which is fortunate as I take him everywhere with me :p

Personally, I'd just keep the radio on, avoid big swinging toys (smacking them in the head is not fun!) and make sure they have food and water for the trip. Belt them up and in (cages, not the birds :p) + if it's super warm then I suggest opening the window furthest from them, so they get air, but not super cold air zooming straight at them. :)

My green cheeks have been on 14 hour (one way) trips from Colorado to Texas in the car with us. They spent part of the time in the cage and part of the time snuggled up on my shoulder while we slept. They've been in hotels, motels and we're planning a tent camping trip for next summer. The one for this summer was cancelled due to a death in the family. They went to the funeral. They've been hiking to the top of a 14,000 ft mountain (they squawked at the hawks!) and bathed in a mountain stream. There's not much they don't do and not many places they don't go with me. (We just returned from Sam's Club and are headed off to the grocery store in a few minutes!)

I have taken our macaw camping in our trailer. It was a one hour trip each way and 3-4 days actually camping. I think he enjoyed it because he was able to go outside. He was in a cage though.
