Hi everyone! So I won't have my fid until December, I will be getting a Senegal :) I'm wondering if it's ok for a Bird to be kept in a travel size cage for a few days? With my previous bird, I would drop him off to a Bird boarding place when I went away for a couple nights (he loved going for drives though )but this time I'm wanting to bring my new friend with me as much as possible when I drive, not fly. So would he be ok living in a travel size cage ( not tiny, but one that is still easy enough to fit in a small car and have at a friend's place with out the cage being an inconvenience). Also, I live in Sydney and in Jan Feb I want to drive to qld to visit my dad, it's about 12 hours in total I gliding stopping. Do you think he would be fine in the car for that length of time? He would hang out on me whilst my partner drove, and in his cage when I am the driver.
Anyone have any long distance driving experience?
Thanks :)

I would do it. As long as you can take him out of the cage for prolonged periods of time several times a day it should be fine. I don't know how your weather is, but I would worry more about drastic temperature changes, drafts, things like that. Make sure you bring a heavy cover for the cage so you can cover if you think it necessary. Place the perch as close to the bottom of the cage as possible while you are driving :)

I'm glad it worked out for you! Glad you're getting a Senegal :) the travel cage should be absolutely fine for a few days.
Many people have done the long car rides with birds, hopefully they'll see this and chime in. It's good to get him exposed and socialized to as many different experiences as is practical for you while he is still young. Can't wait to hear in December!

Thanks Mrs Kay :) And yup most def place the perch low in the cage while driving Lol! First time in the car with my previous bird, i didnt do this.... and he wanted to stand on his swinging perch ofcourse, it was so funny watching him try to stay on it hehe.

Hey ravens, Yup, am def getting a Senegal :) They just really seem to damn perfect! Ill put a deposit down on a baby in October and then hopefully have him home in December. Shall be looking to move out just beofre then, and worse case scenario, i have to hide him for a month or so. If he really is as quiet as made out to be, then im sure no one will even know mwahahaha :)
