Nanday - soon!
Sorry if this has been asked before; I searched but couldn't find anything specific to my question.

I'm looking for a travel cage I can house my Nanday in for 10-12 days while we are out of town. That info is easy enough to find when it pertains to me still being around and taking him out, but this is to board him at an avian hotel. He's really bonded to me and I think they won't be able to take him out. (Yes they do have cages but we are allowed to bring our own in and I want him to have a travel cage anyway.)

Looking on Ama and sites like Foster/Smith I see the very sturdy powder coated cages but they are all like 20x18x20...the slightly larger flight type cages are the flimsier white ones you see parakeets in. I see nothing in between that doesn't roll and have 2 feet of leg under it!

Can anyone tell me if they've had experience housing their similar sized bird in either of those types of cages for a week or two? Which is my best choice?

Personally, I would bring his cage to the avian hotel as this experience will likely be very scary for him and having his own cage will offer some comfort until you return. The new travel cage will only stress him more as you probably wont have enough time to work with him to get acclimated to the travel cage and new surroundings. The travel cage is a great idea when the bird is coming with you for travel and for many other reasons but when you think about the bigger picture and what your asking of the bird for those two weeks you may want to rethink this. Two weeks for us is a relatively short amount of time, but for the bird his whole kingdom has been turned upside down as well his human no where to be found , not to mention strange new humans and environment. It may be a bit of an inconvenience to get his cage and toys to the hotel but it will make a world of difference to him for the time your away.
