Jax
Hello everyone! I just got a yellow side green cheek conure! His name is Jax. He is 6 months and 2 days old. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to get him used to being handled and to be more comfortable with me. I read that conures are very friendly and affectionate, and getting one young I figured i would have the best chance at that if I started right away. But I am wondering if I should give him a few days to get warmed up to his new environment, and if so how long before I try working with him. Also, whats the best things to do to work with him.

Thanks everyone!!!:green2:

Welcome! Green cheeks are great little birds! I hope you'll share some pictures.

Ideas for getting Jax settled in - making sure that his cage is in a well used area of your home so he gets used to the activities, spending time sitting nearby to talk to him and offer treats if he's inclined. I would spend time watching his body language to see what his comfort level is with hands when you offer treats. He may need a bit of time to get used to his new environment, or he may be ready sooner - sitting with him, talking and offering treats is a good way to get a measure of his comfort level (every bird is different, patience is important and working at his pace). I'm not sure if he's hand-tame from your description? Target training is a great way to build trust and a relationship with him - and a good foundation for any other training you want to do. There's lots of great threads on training, building relationships, diet, and tons of stuff specific to conures.

I'm sure others will add some great advice!
