Max--Senegal

RIP Ricco--Mexican Red Head Amazon
What toys (store bought or handmade) do your birds have? Below are some of the toys I bought for Max. :) I have more items to make handmade toys with, but they are not here yet.

Would love to see some of your birds' favorites as well! :)

Merlin likes hanging toys w/bells & rawhide ropes. He doesn't do alot of hanging toy playing, his favorites are foot toys. He loves easter eggs, baby keys, ping pong balls, popcycle sticks, toilet paper rolls, click top pens that I take the ink cartridge out of. He has a small bird stuffed toy that he loves to abuse & Dr Seuss parrot that he thinks is real. lol

that toy with the mirrors?? take care with that one, as i gave nut a ball toy with bells in that was ment for budgies an she chewed through it within seconds!

but nut loves foot toys especially balls with bells in! she goes mental with them, and they are a good distration toy/playing toy we kinda play fetch, but she does not return the ball lol
also she has this blingy chain with brightly coloured acrylic shapes she like to lick/chew

but she is more into her foraging and toys she can destroy! them kabob things lol

oh them bells look good :) i will have too look out for them, as nut loves her bells! she likes to make them forever silent lol

Sue,

I had done a review of that particular mirror. And one customer bought it for their Senegal and the bird loved it and the mirror held up to the chewing. So I decided to buy it, but I will for sure let you know how that goes with Max as Max adjusts to the new home.

Also, I purchased those bells *they are a size Medium* from here:

I have found that petsolutions.com is one of the cheapest sites to buy from thus far, but if anyone else knows of any other sites, I would love to know of them!

i'm glad to read that :) as i am always aware of how destructive nut is!

My bird is pretty much only interested in hanging chew toys. Plastic toys and bells don't interest her, unless shoved repeatedly in her face (I paid good money for this toy, play with it already!) She likes wooden toys, and chewing on the occasional rope. Can't get enough of clothespins. Sometimes she'll chew on a stuffed animal if she's nervous. She does enjoy chewing on pens and pencils and removing the plastic end pieces, though obviously this requires supervision. Really, though, she's not that crazy about toys, and would rather entertain herself by talking/singing/screaming or eating. I'm planning on getting her some more foraging toys, because she's a sucker for food and I'd like her to get a bit more mental stimulation during the day.

River has slews of toys because I just can't seem to resist! Lol! He really likes those plastic balls wth the bell inside lately.

My Amazon, Ricco, didn't like toys. He was fine with me putting them by his cage. And they could be there a week or two and never seem upset by them. But if you put them in his cage, he'd cower and whimper up a storm.

So when I was told Max likes toys.... I wanted to give Max a good variety of toys. Not all of those are going in the cage (some of the blocks to make toys with are going to be foot toys for out of cage play), and not all of it at once :) However, the rope perch doesn't fit the cage... :( So I am not happy about that at all. I am hoping to get some other things because the cage is huge, and having only 2 perches and a corner perch, seems empty. I am thinking about getting or making a ladder :) However, with three dishes, I only have one corner of the cage where I can put a lot of things.

We gave Lu a mirror and she just stared and stared... we got worried and heard some bad stories about birds bonding with themselves so took it out, not to mention she began taking it apart within 15 minutes. I'm in the process of making some toys for her since I can't seem to find toys that stand up to her rough play that are made for little feet! :)

Sushi loves anything she can shred. Although, we just bought her a kabob and she FREAKED out! She's never seemed afraid of anything else so far, but for some reason she could not stand it! We're slowly moving it closer to her every day, along with her harness. Right now, she's on her pirate playstand I made for her out of PVC and sisal rope. It has a climbing ladder with little perches on it that she just loves.

Mnsalani, a pirate playstand sounds sooo cute! Do you have pics here of the playstand? I would love to see simething like that :)

Today, while Max was napping (I just brought Max home today), I made a very simple toy with a bell, coconut shell, and a few pieces of wood, and some cotton rope. I put it in the cage, and Max took to it immediately, shredding the coconut (and thus ringing the cowbell) :)

Max seems to be adjusting to the new home very well :)

I go to the bird show in Orlando 4 times a year and buy all size of wood stuff and make Jay's toys. He loves to chew wood toys.

Sue, I had my camera out and pointed at Max for quite a while this weekend. I think he has seen enough of the camera, at least for a little while :)
