Don't know if it would work or if it's allowed, but we all must have toys our parrots are not into and just plain old ignored.
What does everyone think about a toy exchange? Swapping unused toys with one another, so maybe they get used? Take a pic, post it , and perhaps swap it with some one else, maybe not even with the person who took your toy?

Comments?

You could just ask for the postage to be paid - this is what happens on lots of the fish forums I'm on [emoji4]

Sounds good but location excludes me I feel.

To be honest I hate to see toys just discarded and usually donate to one of my holiday fids, the LPC usually makes short work of anything he is given.

I think it would be nice. Even if we had to pay shipping, at least the toys our fids are bored with or don't like aren't just being thrown out or stored somewhere to never see the light of day. I can't imagine shipping would be too horrible on most toys unless they're huge.

Great idea. People would need to put aside any issues with equal value or what not for it to work. I have a pretty big hanging toy made of wood for the purpose of chewing but each piece of wood is so big Perjo (CAG) has a hard time chewing it. Probably better for a Macaw.

BTW this post took 8 minutes to type b/c the cursor keeps freezing up, only happens on this site. So frustrating.

This is a nice idea, Al. The Mod Team has discussed it and we are going to leave it be.

But we are going to have to put in something of a disclaimer, here. This will be an activity between members that is neither endorsed or sponsored by Parrot Forums.

This means that if Member A decides to engage in a toy swap with Member B, we cannot be held responsible for any mishaps that may occur... whether at the time of the swap or as a result of it. (Nor should Wrench13, for that matter.) It is simply a contract, whether oral or written, between two parties who simply happen to be using this forum as the vehicle of their communications. Nothing more.

In addition, I would advise any and all participating members to properly sanitize any toys received to be on the safe side.

Thank you, and enjoy!

Toy Exchange: Great idea! Our Amazon has turned his tail on more than a couple of toys that we believed would have been great. He has two reactions: Love at first sight or the turn around and shuffle away.

Tech Issue: Consider clearing your History (under the History pull down) and if it continues, ask your carrier why you're not getting full band width.

As an experiment, can we get a subforum to try this out? Moderators? Huh? Pretty Please? With a sticky , exhonorating the main forum from any damages liability , all that legal stuff?

It is a great idea for people who live in the same country and can post toys cheaper [emoji4]
Surely it worth a try [emoji6]

Sorry, Al. Given the past experiences we've had with people taking advantage in similar situations, allowing it in its current form on this thread is already dancing fairly close to the edge. Creating a new sub-forum for this exchange would indeed be accepting at least tacit responsibility for what goes on within, regardless of any stated disclaimers.

Agreed Stephen, although it's really a cute/fun idea if it were a "perfect world" :).

I like this idea also if for no other reason than to know what my bird may not like to avoid those! Which brings me to another note please include your bird type if you would.
As a tree climber in Florida I will be saving any suitable grape vine for perches and would like to offer them for the cost of shipping. They seemed a bit expensive the few stores I've been in. I'll post them as they come in.
As always thanks for having us!

Ok, you guys are the boss. Was just an idea, anywho.

How do you properly sterilize a toy? Wood? Plastic? Rope? Grass/reed, Fabric? Not everything is suitable for the dishwasher, but it would be good info to know. Thanks!

I will caveat this with I don't have a dog in this fight, I exist merely to stir the pot:

If you're so worried about liability, shouldn't we then shut down the rehoming sub-forum? It's the identical concept, but with live animals. And any liability should it exist would be inherently greater in the trafficking of live animals than there would be for simple toys.

I've been on several forums the last 15 years, mostly orchid forums, and Every forum had an actively used section dedicated to trading and giveaways. I'm not so sure there is the liability you all believe there is. Did anyone run this by a lawyer?

Hey I am not one to sow discord (ya right), I had just envisioned something simple, as in 'my parrot hates this toy, anyone want it? Just pay shipping'. Usually that's like 10 bucks. No biggie, friends can always offer the toys to other friends, or needy birds. Newbies are notorious for needing toys, so we might all keep that in mind. I know I will. OK I am off to make like Fellini and make the next great parrot video.
