toxic trees

While pine and fur trees ( most commonly used as Christmas trees ) are not toxic per say I'd be careful of the pitch or pine tar (sap) that comes from fresh cut trees, the thing that would concern me more is that most Christmas trees today are commercially grown on tree farms and thus may have been treated with pesticides, other concerns about Christmas trees of a non toxic nature would be sharp needles, electric cords and lights, plastic ornaments, tinsil and other harmful decorations, probably best to keep the fids away from the trees, better to be safe than sorry :)

Here in nz we get the lovely pohutakaws trees
not that many people use them as an actual Xmas tree but they are known as the kiwi Xmas tree because it's the time of year they flower

Mikki and pheonix both love them and enjoy spreading red all thru the house and I love the soft earthy smell they have

I'm making the birds their own Xmas tree for Xmas day
pohutakawa , popcorn strings , cranberries and cherios forage toys , pellet based Ginger bread men and some other odds and ends should keep them busy
