So we have two parrotlets, that are super sweet. We haven't had either for too long. The older one is about 18 months old and wouldn't dream of chewing on a toy. The baby is 10 weeks old, we've had her for two weeks. Yesterday she decided she like toys. FYI they're all bird toys.

I feel silly asking, but aren't they just supposed to shred the balsa (soft wood) toys up? I swear it looks like she's actually been eating it. I can't imagine where the pieces could have gone to.

Her behavior is fine, she's her usually tiny terror. Weighing in at less than 24 grams. I'm not actually concerned about her weight, I have a gram scale and everything looks good there. Also poop seems fine.

So, am I nuts or is this normal?

I go thru the same freakout, but my JoJo is still alive!

And remember, "So, am I nuts or is this normal"------------
Can be both!

Yes, this is totally normal. Parrots of all sizes love shredding wood (some individuals more than others) and often times those little bits on the bottom don't look like they equal the amount removed from the toy (but they do!). Parrots are pretty good about not ingesting non-food items, and it is rare for them to actually ingest wood (even then, it would be by accident). Sound like you just have a beaver-bird on your hands:D Maybe he will entice the other one to get more active in the toy department too!

I'm sure she will, they haven't been introduced yet as we've been trying to quarantine, but our hasn't isn't terribly big. We've had her two weeks and everyone is healthy so I think we're on the right track.

My conure doesn't play with any toys, she just chews any wood or paper she finds! I can't even have wood perches for her, lol!
