We brought Tokie Home Friday evening, and we are so excited to have her in her new home.....she is entertaining, to say the least....She attacked the toys right away, and broke one within minutes, but she does love to play with the other one.....with the rawhide....my husband is now thinking of different toys to make for her, from your suggestions, with wood and dowels.she LOVES being out, and hates when I make her get back in the gage.....she hates to be alone, or left, if we go into another area of the house...she is VERY vocal!!!!! She takes food from our hand very gently, and had much rather eat, that way, then from out of the bowl.....I don't think she ever had a bowl before....I wanted to ask, do you all cover your birds at night!

Welcome Home, Tokie! She's a little beauty!

Covering cages is a personal choice. Birds will adapt either way. I cover my birds at night, it's part of their routine and their cue it's time to sleep. They are in a busy part of the house but once their cages are covered they sleep through the night.

Welcome home! You've got a gorgeous bird there. Excited to see the relationship between you 2 grow.

Well, we have been home all day, and take turns spending time with her, I am the one that feeds her.....We live in Mexico, and it is still very warm, so we spend more time outside then inside, so we made her a really nice area in a corner, under an alcove, of the stairs, going to our rooftop.....(out of wind and element) I have a chair there, that I love to sit and read in, and I thought it would be perfect for her, since I spend a lot of time there, and it is right off the guest room, and if the weather got bad, we could just move her into the guest room....she had belonged to a man, but all the family members fed her....but today, we discovered, she REALLY likes my husband.....who is a little afraid of her....he is happy to open her cage, and sit there, but that is it.....this is a man who never had a dog until he met me, and I had 3 great danes, and now have a rottie and 3 chi's.....anyway, when he leaves her, to come back into the house, she squawks and screams, for him....we are finding she is a little needy, becasue even if the dogs leave, from behind their fenced in area, (our rottie especially) she starts squawking!!!!!I am hoping as time goes, she will become accustomed to us both.....equally, as I will be the one to clean her cage and feed her.....OH, and she LOVES the cooked twisty pasta, we had for dinner tonight, I gave her a few, after it was cooked, and she ate every morsel!!!!

Congrats on your new macaw! We literally just got back from a cruise to Mexico Sunday... Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo. When we were at a restaurant in Vallarta they had a cute half moon conure and military macaw. The macaw would reach through the bars to "tongue" us and poor thing only had sunflower seeds, but looked well cared for other than that. My husband isn't a huge pet person himself, never having grown up with them, but now lives with a virtual farm/menagerie. I've found most birds are very fond of pasta in all of its many forms. Salude
