todays toy to destroy

Good job . that looks like a really fun toy:)

Aren't paper towel rolls toxic?Ive read and many places that they are due to the glue used on them.

Some toilet paper and paper towel rolls don't have glue on them, but if they do, I wouldn't use those ones. I buy quilted northern and I haven't seen any glue on the end of the roll. It just falls off. The article says the glue they use at the end of the roll, but what if they don't use glue all the time? I don't know. Better safe than sorry?

I believe the stuff about paper towel roles and drink holders you get from fast food restaurants is so over rated, I have talked to many many vets and they all say use them, cheap free toys and a lot of fun so I see no reason why you can't use them

I read an article about this and the concern was the possibility of a zinc component somewhere in the core, or the adhesive attaching the paper to the core. Procter & Gamble assures that there is no zinc present in the core, towel or the adhesive of their products. They are the ones who make Bounty Kitchen paper towels.

However, it appears that the most concern with using Toilet Paper, is in fact nothing to do with the adhesive but rather the fact that it has been proven that every time a toilet is flushed, a small amount of material becomes airborne. These minute moisture droplets can carry different bacteria including e.coli and do eventually cover all surfaces in bathrooms. Even though chances are slim that enough pathogenic bacteria would have collected on the toilet paper core, it is not wise to use them for your parrots.

(READ FROM : Parrots Magazine February 2013).

So I personally choose to use Bounty Paper Towel rolls for toys, but not Toilet paper rolls.

So now I have to start buying Northern t.p. and then figure out how to get the paper core out before it gets affected by the minute particles that are flying out of the toilet during a flush.... OMG, the things I do for my Pritti, LOL.

Give her a brand new roll and once she is done unrolling it she can play with the core....

well now im in two minds, there is no glue to be found on the rolls i have been giving them but do i keep giving or just go buy some pvc tube and drill it out to make the same toy , the only thing is there they dont get the fun of destroying the core.

I saw a video somewhere about bird safe glue this girl made and she used it like paper mache to make tubes

Puck loved shredding paper, so one time I mounted a (new) TP roll in his cage and he LOVED it! I have a picture somewhere of him where he took the end of the roll and climbed up on top of his cage with the whole thing unraveling. <3
