So as some of you may knowi am working my way up the ladder to becoming a vet hopefully an avian one:). So for my class I scheduled to do a outreach about our parrot rescue and about parrots in general. So for most educational shows me and my father do we take out multiple birds we have socialized to step on anyone.

Well for the past year I have been working with a hyacinth macaw that is in a ladie will for me one day as well as an emerald macaw. Soo we decided what greater opportunity then to take out the hyacinth to get to know what life is like with us. We do this with many of our birds just so they become more social. I also took baby girl out just to show what aggression can look like i used my dad as the guinea pig lol.

Soo to my surprise the hyacinth went to everybody and was loving it, then came back and snuggled into me like she so greatly appreciated leaving and having a great time:).

Although the emerald macaw got worked up and slightly comped me, she as well said sorry by laying on her back and giving me kisses.

We also took out many of my macaws and a cockatoo and amazon we had a total of 10 birds out and the kids loved it and we're very interested in learning. Then we took a drive in a bus over to the rescue itself and showed the kids a little bit about how it works and a few are very interested in volenteering:))).

It was a great day and I wish I could have gotten pictures but I was so busy as the students wanted to learn as much as they could. I am so proud of my future hyacinth she acted so well.( when I first started working with her she was pretty scared and semi aggresive because of this and I'll tell you what a hy can chomp!!!)

Well I volenteer at a rescue, but as my time there has progressed I also run some rescue out of my own home. I'm a big part of the rescue I volenteer with being the behavioral worker and chief of the outreach program. One day I believe due to my younger age I will end up being the owner though. I used to go change papers and feed a lot, but now when I go I seem to end up doing work with birds all day and let the newer people do the basic care( it is not beneath me though I still love to do that:) )

Hey Jtbirds... I haven't been very active on the forums lately due to some other issues arising - which should hopefully be a temporary thing. I always tell people I'm not the greatest multi-tasker, and it's a fact ;). But regardless of current issues, my birds will always be my highest priority!

Your outreach efforts and your reports of the encounters and interactions involving the birds you care for are indeed a great thing. I'm quite glad to know you're pursuing as such :).

There are few better feelings in life than interacting with a lovable Hy! I can surely attest to that!! It sounds as if you have a wonderful relationship with the Emerald Macaw as well. That's really cool :D. It's certainly a great thing that you're young and thus should be able to provide them with a lifetime of support.

Keep up the great work and keep up the reports!

I love to hear about people taking their macaws out in public and sharing the experience of seeing, hearing and holding them. This past weekend it warmed up a bit here in North Florida and I was able to take Kayko and Clifford out to the Riverside Arts Market and to the Town Center Mall. April 28th, all three of my birds are going to an outdoor carnival at Lakeside Presbyterian Church to interact with the children.

I am so glad to hear of these things. Education of the public is so very important. I have spent my life sharing my birds & their experiences with other people. I've done lectures for schools, boy & girl scouts, 4-H clubs, etc. And used my birds as Therapy Birds in Assisted Living homes, children's hospitals, and senior centers. Plus, I've always been "that crazy guy with all those birds". And have walked around with my fids in all kinds of places. Both to socialize the birds & inform the public of how great birds are. Now that I am disabled, don't drive, and cannot do as I have been doing, it is great to hear of you guys doing it. Keep up the good work! And thanks!
