Bonny managed to break the tip of her beak. Well actual it will be one year in a week but close enough.

She was her normal self first thing this morning, but something happened because next I saw her she was sleeping on her perch, something she never does in the morning. Checking her over I saw the bent beak tip, it didn't seem to have bled much, and was already dry. Its a holiday and so the normal vet was not answering the phone, I didn't feel like it was an emergency so didn't try that number. It took a few hours but she started to acting her normal happy self, only difference was that she was not using the tip of her beak, making moving around a little more difficult for her. It also meant she could not do her favorite pastime, pinching me.

I would not normally worry that much but I had a trip planned for this weekend and was going to have a sitter check in on her each day, now I am worried that it will break off more and start bleeding. So I will be calling the vet in the morning.

Reflecting back on how much our relationship has changed over the past year, it is really amazing how far it has come. I started being unable to touch her and now...

I spent so long working with her to step up on a stick and now I can't remember the last time i got one out.

I wondered how long it would take her to learn some new words, and now she can't shut up. Its "good girl" and "step up" all day ever day.

Will update when i get back from the vet, hopefully they can fit me in.

Edit: The ironic thing is that I had just gotten some Vitacritter to try and had just finished the first batch of new blocks for her (that same day), oh well they will have to wait.

Hopefully Bonny's beak will be feeling less sensitive soon and the vet will be able to ensure its okay and shape and treat it if needed ...you have done an Amazing job with Bonny...Well Done ...Hopefully the vet will be able to set your mind at rest

Its highly likely that as a result of her bending the very tip of her beak, she compressed the upper most area (the root if you will, words are not coming this morning) of her beak. And, just as possible that as the beak slipped from whatever she was doing, it quickly released pressure. There is a fair number of nerve endings in that area.

The specific area that she bent is only beak and the Vet will likely trim/smooth that area.

Please let us know what the Vet has to say.

Wonderful Pic's! And, Happy Anniversary!

Thinking about Bonny's beak I totally forgot the anniversary...Happy Anniversary :)

Happy 1st Anniversary, wishing you many more! You and Bonny have made tremendous progress. I'm sorry about Bonny's beak, I hope the vet can fit her in and the injury is a minor one. Her beak has to heal quickly so she can dispose of those wonderful new blocks.

Happy anniversary very beautiful. Hope all goes well with her beak.

All things heavenly rarify to air. Trees produce that heavenly air. Breathe air and take care!

Happy Anniversary, Bonnie, in your new home. You sure are loved.
