Just a question.... I want to know the pros and cons of clipping a macaw.. hes 5months now and he sure knows how to fly, and he has great accuracy, but i cant keep him off my head or others who come in... so the question is, to clip or not? thanks for taking the time to answer..Rae

During training, its best to clip! Unless you can teach him to behave otherwise. Out of all my birds, only one gets clipped. Because he's very mean and hard to catch! He's in a aviary so training isn't needed...

I keep my Greenwing clipped because I take him almost everywhere.

I don't clip my macaw cause he likes to chew on it if I clip. But like I've said, its best to clip during training! Unless you can teach him otherwise!

Hey Harley I had same problems with mine at that age he's 9 months now and he's stopped doing it. Used to drive me crazy couldn't let him see me or he was flying on top of me. Just keep lifting him off and then time out he will soon learn. Couldn't clip his wings as he loves to fly.

There's your solution what patterson said. My macaw likes to climb on my head too even at his age. I lift him off my head. He mainly do it when he's nervous...
