African Grey Timneh
Timneh lost her last two clipped feathers last night while she was flying around. They both fell out on the same short flight. Took over a year to get to them. She's still flying but I'm sure she will get better when they come in. Seemed like she was having a little harder time flying from the kitchen to her house. She has to fly through a 90 degree doorway. While I was misting her she flew in a circle a couple times and landed before flying through the doorway.

My CAG is capable of making a 90Âş turn. I would thing a TAG being a smaller bird would be even more maneuverable. keep us posted.

I'm sure you're right. Once all the clipped feathers are gone and the new feathers come in they do become better fliers. Then they become even better with practice.

I love watching clipped feathers molt out, knowing my bird is a step closer to flying.

She made the turn but it took her a couple of tries cause I think her lift was a little different. She's becoming quite a good flier. She went from my knee the other day straight up to the top of her house.

The two feathers are located near the outer leading edge (cutting feathers) and greatly effects the maneuverability of the Parrot. Once the Parrot adjusts to their loss, the maneuverability comes back quickly.

In addition, both feathers are from the same Wing!

Thank you I had not actually known where the second feather came from I assumed I hadn't seen it on the other side. Timneh is really coming around to people lately. She gives you a couple of fly bys and then if she thinks it's all good she lands on their head and hangs out. She seems to k ow the first time she does this people duck she probably gets a kick out of that too.

Kermit is also in the process of molting out his clipped feathers. He still has 2 on each wing, but he’s flying so much better. All that patience has finally paid off.

Timneh will most certainly improve flight due to this and just as mentioned already b/c of experience and confidence. BUT, don't be surprised if there is some drop off in performance and confidence in the short term. That is what happened when my Perjo lost too many feathers too quickly (she chewed a few of them).

Today my Perjo left her cage in flight (not sure if she slipped or took off with a purpose) but she flew through two large openings in a hallway then turned at a 90 to land on the kitchen floor. She didn't hit anything either. Funny when you suddenly hear wings a flapping and you can't see them, you just wonder what is going to happen or where they will turn up.
