I am looking for some imput. I know CAG's are bigger and the Color Differences. And I have oftern Heard TAG's are less exspensive then CAG's although around here there is not much difference in price to make it a decition breacker... SO I was hoping others would help me to understand If there are any mayor differences between the two. I know you will have variations from one bird to another of the same breed... So with that said what made you decided on one over the other. Just loking for something I have missed cause I am not really finding any differences other then the ones mentioned. I know there is NO garuentee any bird will talk BUT on average do CAG have better vocabulary then TAG's ?? Are there any temperment difference that are common from one to the other? I just have to wonder cause there are alot more CAG available around me then TAG's so was wondering.... why I plan on getting one in the few months and have wanted a CAG for a very long time but don't want to over look the TAG if they are very simular.

:green2:Owned by an awesome Quaker:green2:

Thank you... I actually just found that info right befor I checked back on
this thread lol.. That was one I did not find in the past.... It was deffinently very helpfull...:)

You're welcome. As always make sure you know a lot about the bird you want. If you're in high school make sure you know what you're doing for college. Birds are messy, loud, and a ton of work. Their toys, food & treats cost big $$ so be prepared before you dive in :p Good Luck & show us pics of your bird when you get him/her!

I must say I chose a TAG because of several reasons. They both can have equal vocabularies however the TAG's voice is not as exact in tone as the CAG. The TAG is also said to be much less neurotic and less likely to become a plucker. TAG's also are more of a family bird. The CAG is more known to pick one person as their favorite

I have had both my ex husband still has my CAG for he won her in my divorce. Having had the experience of being owned by both species I would say my TAG Echo has to be as smart as the CAG but is more laid back in general.

BTW if you are in NW Ohio have you been to BirdFarm down in Youngstown? I highly recommend them..

Which ever you decide on be prepaired for a very smart FID

We are almost neighbors I am in Erie.. I would bet we are less then an hr apart! Birdfarm will amaze you. They are a bird only store & are more then reasonable in pricing. They are awesome people and only an hour or so away. They are only open to the public on Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sunday and close by 4PM so make sure you get there earlier in the day so you will have plenty of time to spend there..

CAGs are not neurotic! They are very intelligent birds that are extremely aware of their surroundings and humans. They are cautious, interactive and very loveable. That does not make them neurotic!

greycloud.... please do not get worked up it is ones opinion and that is what I asked was for ppls opinions... so please do not attack others replies to my thread.. Thank you :)

I am not attacking. I am stating my opinion.

Okay, after adding my CAG to the flock and getting to know my friend's TAG, I'm more of a Congo person. My Ruby definitley prefers to be with me, but she likes my husband and lets everyone in the family pet her - when she's in he mood for it. The breeder we got her from has 6 CAGs that are pets, not breeding pairs. She feels that both TAGs and CAGs which are properly socialized won't be one-person birds, won't pluck, and won't have standard "grey neuroses". It all comes down to what they're taught.

From my experience, CAGs are better in multi-bird home. Ruby knows that Jade is the big sister and Alpha Bird and she's good with being the brains behind the throne. My friend's TAG was not at all accepting of their macaw and would dive-bomb him often. From what our breeder told us, this is usual Timmy behavior. They big birds in little bodies. They have knot intention of backing down from a bird twice their size.

The personality of each bird is so different. My TAG is the exact opposite. Echo is very interested in Tobi and will try to get close to him all the time but he is somewhat timid and defiantly not the alpha bird, Tobi is even though he is the baby.

As far as the neurotic comment. CAGS in general are in my opinion having been owned by both more neurotic. It is my experience for both my CAGS were pluckers and would only accept one person’s contact, Echo is the exact opposite. Loves everyone and has never ever started to pluck.

Again this is my opinion and my experience with having been owned by greys for over 20 years..

GC I totally agree with you CAG's are not neurotic.

Believe me, and Linky will be behind me 110% Mishka is the most calm, content and friendly bird you will ever meet.
:grey:
Any species of birds can turn out to be neurotic, just like a human.
Any species of birds can be lovable, I have had 3 CAG's, only one of them lovable in a cuddly way, but each one lovable in their own way.

Each bird I have had was exactly the same as Mishka, never choosing one particular person as their #1. It all depends how you bring the bird up, just like a child.

People always ask me does Mishka prefer males to females, Mishka loves everyone, male or female, baby or adult. Only one of my CAG's was lovable in a cuddly way, but each one lovable in their own way.

As for their intelligence, we all know...........need we say more
