would someone be willing to give me advice and walk me through using a time out cage? i recently got one for my caique and want to use it to stop her screaming behavior. how is the best way to put her in time out? for how long? if i go in the room and get her to put her in time out, am i rewarding her as i've shown up like she wanted? how should i put her in time out when she wants to come out of her normal cage, as opposed to when she's out playing?

Punishment doesnt work

A punishment cage teaches her to hate cages...not what you want

You need to be more subtle. Find out why she is screaming and address THAT

Buy more toys, the reason she/he screaming because they want attention, if you don't have the time buy toys to keep them happy and playing

I have had Oliver do this before even AFTER he has had playtime out of cage. So there should be no reason. But........ I have covered him completely for about 30 seconds, after doing this a few times he did get the picture.

well that scream is play time is over but he wants to play more.

The real trick to screaming is to find out why and address that. If the scream is for attention then it's simple. If in the same room make no reaction until an acceptable noise is made then give a "hello" or something, just some attention. If out of the room stay out until an acceptable noise is made, then enter. Time out in this case will never work and either make them scream to go in the cage or make them afraid of cages and more likely to bite when trying to get them in. The idea is to divert the problem by making them think the scream wont summon you but the nicer noises will. Sometimes involves having to sit just outside their site for a while but it does work, you just gotta keep at it.
