So we went and saw Dr Scott today. Chicken didn't need anything for grooming, but he said she's in really good condition and a really good weight for her, so that was good. I also decided to get her a microchip so if anything ever happens, she has it. She isn't happy about having to stay in her cage the rest of the night, but Dr Scott suggested she does so she doesn't fall and land on her chest right after getting the chip.
Tiki was also said to be in good body condition and feather. He needed his break and toes groomed so that got done. I didn't get him chipped this time since he's blind, doesn't fly, and doesn't go outside unless he's in a carrier, but I may get him done in the future because now it sort of bothers me that I didn't.
I also asked whether he thought that removing the cataract from his one eye would at least give him half his sight back. Sadly, he said it probably wouldn't. He checked both eyes for any light reaction, and his eyes didn't react to light at all. He said that if there was sight behind the cataract, his eye should have still reacted to the light. Due to this, and because he's older, I don't think I'm going to try and have the cataract removed. If it was thought that he could get his sight in that eye back, I would, but I'm not going to put him through a surgery that most likely won't do anything for him.
I wish I could do something to help his sight, but either way it's okay. I don't love him any less and he's still a good bird. He has adapted well to not having his sight, so his life is still a good one.I asked too, about if his eyes could be fixed, but Dr Scott said that if they are at the point where they are unreactive, then they are in all likelihood too damaged too fix.
